Marvel has already taken over the big and small screens with their interconnected cinematic universe and Disney+ shows. Naturally, the next step in their big masterplan involved taking over the video game world, too, and they are off to a good start. Heavy hitters like Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Marvel Rivals, and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy were met with outstanding critical receptions. Meanwhile, 2026 alone saw the release of iconic titles such as Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Marvel's Deadpool VR. However, this is just the beginning.
2026 is shaping up to be a big year for the superhero giant's gaming division, not only because we might finally get to play Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, but because Logan will finally get the spotlight he deserves. Marvel's Wolverine is the next video game developed by Insomniac Games, the masterminds behind the Marvel's Spider-Man saga. Players are about to venture into a violent, action-packed, and cinematic adventure that will take them to locations all around the world in search of clues about Logan's past. Everyone is eager to get their hands on the game, and at long last, we may finally know when that could happen.
Marvel's Wolverine will reportedly hit shelves in September or October 2026
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Marvel's Wolverine will be released in September or October 2026. Those months are being targeted because Sony is reportedly planning its entire release schedule around the release of GTA 6, which will hit shelves on Nov. 19, 2026 (assuming another delay isn't on the cards). That way, Marvel's Wolverine will avoid going toe to toe with Rockstar Games' next gargantuan project, which would all but guarantee a commercial disaster for Sony.

If we examine the release dates of games under the PlayStation Studios umbrella, we discover a very interesting pattern. PlayStation has consecutively had a major release in either September or October for many years now (if we take into account Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, that is). Ghost of Yōtei came out in October 2025, 2024 saw the launch of Astro Bot in September, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was released in October 2023, and so on. With that in mind, it isn't far-fetched to assume Marvel's Wolverine is targeting those specific months, too, which have been proven to be successful for Sony.
Marketing-wise, it makes sense for Insomniac's upcoming title to hit shelves after a big event such as Summer Game Fest. So far, only two trailers have been released for the game, and one of them was a completely pre-rendered teaser. Players are still awaiting a big gameplay deep dive, which could very well happen during Summer Game Fest. Otherwise, Sony can hold a State of Play presentation in June, just like they did in 2025, and shine the spotlight on the highly anticipated game. That way, more eyes can be set on Marvel's Wolverine just as it nears its release date.
While not intentionally, Marvel's Wolverine's potential release month marks a big question mark for the launch of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Given that the two are ambitious, AAA, third-person action-adventure projects, Marvel will surely try to space them out to ensure they both get the spotlight they deserve. Initially, Rise of Hydra was intended to be released this January, but since it was delayed and no new release window is in sight, we can't help but wonder if it will come out after Marvel's Wolverine. Could a Christmas launch work, or is 2027 the new target?
While Insomniac's upcoming project is still many months away, we have other amazing superhero projects to look forward to in the meantime, including Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With a bit of luck, these projects will fill in the gap until we can take control of Logan and potentially other X-Men in a modern video game.
Marvel's Wolverine will be released in 2026 on PlayStation 5.
