The dead will rise again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga. Four years after the Marvel Studios franchise introduced us to the concept of alternate zombified versions of our favorite MCU heroes, the undead nightmares return for another bite of ridiculousness. And fans are ready for it.
Marvel Zombies is a spinoff series to previous animated series What If...?, set in an alternate world in which the MCU's heroes have struggled to overcome a zombie apocalypse, which has ravaged the globe. Those that survived are simply trying to keep doing that, but it isn't easy when you have a host of super-powered zombies surrounding you. If it's anything like the comic book that it is based on (written by The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman), then prepare for a bloody good time!
If you're ready to dive into the world of Marvel Zombies, here's when you can expect the Disney Plus series to arrive in your neck of the woods.

While the vast majority of MCU shows have begun releasing during Primetime hours on Disney Plus, the streamer has found a consistently successful release pattern with animation, which involves sticking to the original release time for MCU shows. So, while the live-action shows tend to drop in the evening hours, Marvel Zombies joins What If...?, X-Men '97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and Eyes of Wakanda in enjoying early morning releases instead.
What to expect from Marvel Zombies
We mentioned that Marvel Zombies is a spinoff of What If...? and there's a good reason for that. It isn't just that the new four-part miniseries features the same character designs as its predecessor, it's a sequel to one specific episode. The first season of What If...? featured an episode titled "What If... Zombies?!", which very quickly became one of the most talked-about episodes of the series. This one was based on the Robert Kirkman comic series Marvel Zombies, and gave us a glimpse into a much darker, more violent world within the MCU's Multiverse Saga. It also left fans wanting more.
Marvel Zombies picks up five years later, showing us all what the survivors of this world are getting up to now. Based on the trailer for the upcoming show, it's safe to say that the world has not gotten back on a solid footing as the undead continue to rule it. And the idea of seeing another chapter in this particularly frightening Marvel story is really quite exciting.

Just as Wanda Maximoff was at the center of the What If...? episode, Zombies will see the Scarlet Witch amass an army of her own - an army of zombies! - as she will become known as the Queen of the Dead. That will make her something of an insurmountable antagonist that the remaining Avengers will look to take down. It won't be an easy task, but that will certainly make the show all the more gripping of a watch.
There is one major difference between Zombies and its What If...? predecessor, and that's the violence. Marvel Zombies is rated TV-MA, meaning that it's going to go to some places that the parent series' episode could not - some bloody, brutal, and barbaric places. This will mark the third TV-MA series in the MCU franchise but the first animated outing to go there.
Needless to say that Marvel Zombies will be an event series for the ages and, based on early reactions, it's a must-see too. If you're ready for the multiversal madness that is about to ensue in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, then prepare yourself for this unforgettable adventure.
This is the second-to-last MCU project releasing this year, with fellow Disney Plus series Wonder Man arriving in December.
