One of Marvel's most beloved heroes just 'killed' Spider-Man

It's common to see Marvel heroes perish at the hands of supervillains. However, this time a good guy might've ended another's life.

Marvel heroes put their lives at risk so often that it's easy to forget how dangerous their adventures really are. Sure, they usually manage to make it out of any situation without too many complications thanks to their fantastic abilities and powers. However, history has taught us that they aren't as immortal as they often seem.

Even literal gods such as Thor have met their end on comic book pages at the hands of a fearsome and powerful foe. Unimaginable yet great dangers are capable of ending the journey of a fan-favorite character at any given moment without prior warning. But what's a bit more uncommon to see is a beloved hero ending another's life... though it's not entirely impossible.

Marvel just reminded us that the good guys can come at odds with each other, and the situation might escalate to a point of no return. Yet, the most shocking part is that this all happened in just the second issue of a new "team-up" comic book series that pitched its titular characters against each other in a very violent fight.

Wolverine seemingly killed Spider-Man in Spider-Man & Wolverine No. 2

We all know how the story (usually) goes: Peter Parker is a brilliant kid from Queens who lost his parents at a very young age, moved with his uncle and aunt, got amazing powers courtesy of a radioactive spider, lost Ben, and became New York's greatest protector. However, what is rarely explored in any Spider-Man story is how and why the beloved hero is an orphan. So, just what exactly happened to Richard and Mary Parker?

Peter's parents were CIA agents who tried to infiltrate the Red Skull's operations by posing as double agents. However, the supervillain was quick to discover their true motives and, as a result, sent them on a mission that would prove to be their last. Red Skull ordered someone to sabotage Richard and Mary's plane, and the crash proved to be fatal for both of them. While this was always a tragic story in itself, it recently proved to be more shocking than anybody could've imagined thanks to a surprise twist.

See, Wolverine recently teamed up with Spider-Man to retrieve the Janus Directory — a S.H.I.E.L.D. database that contains the information of every double agent in history and the missions they went on. The wall-crawler eventually found and decrypted this asset, and, much to his surprise, he found a video of the exact moment his parents died. But what no one could've imagined is the fact that Wolverine was the one to provoke it all by sabotaging the plane himself, as ordered by the Red Skull.

When the friendly neighborhood hero found out who was really responsible for the death of his parents, he wasn't feeling so friendly anymore. During the events of Spider-Man & Wolverine (2025) No. 2, Spidey started to beat Wolverine without remorse, and the worst part is that he didn't even pull his punches anymore. Logan tried to talk at first and explain that the whole situation feels like a setup (though he can't remember if he truly sabotaged the plane or not). However, Peter wasn't thinking straight, and even went as far as ripping off Wolverine's jaw with a single hit (Truly, the whole fight is really violent).

After acting like a punching bag for a while and trying to de-escalate the situation, Experiment X finally gave up to his rage as well and started attacking Peter. The issue then ends with Wolverine stabbing Spidey right through the stomach and seemingly killing him (for what feels like the hundredth time in recent memory, taking into account the Eight Deaths of Spider-Man run).

So is the wall-crawler really gone? While all signs might point to that being the case, it's also highly unlikely that Marvel will just stop using his character (especially in the second issue of a new saga). But how will he survive such a fatal wound, then? Well, the cover of Spider-Man & Wolverine (2025) No. 3 reveals that he'll wear the black suit once again, which would explain how he was able to heal even in such a dire situation. Now, it's just a matter of figuring out if Logan was really behind the death of Peter's parents, and how the two iconic heroes manage to come to terms with the situation.

Spider-Man & Wolverine (2025) No. 3 will be released on Jul. 30, 2025.
