The MCU's Young Avengers debut in new first look Marvel teaser
As Marvel Studios continues to build towards the culmination of the Multiverse Saga, excitement is at an all-time high for the stories that are about to be told. That has a lot to do with the fact that, after a series of ups and downs, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally back on track with success stories like Deadpool and Wolverine and Disney Plus' Agatha All Along. The announcement that the next Avengers movie would be bringing back MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom was just the icing on the cake.
With the saga once again a must-see event, there are a number of titles that the studio has clearly been building towards for some time now. The potential for some of these titles was always there, but it's only since the Multiverse Saga began that we have seen them begin to come to fruition. And one of those is that long-awaited, heavily-rumored Young Avengers project.
With the introductions of multiple young heroes and proteges over the course of the past four years, the MCU is preparing to introduce us to a team of its young heroes. And now, we have our first look at some of them together in a brand new teaser scene that has given us an idea of what to expect when the young, vibrant heroes cross paths.
Young Avengers assemble in Worlds of Marvel experience teaser scene
The Worlds of Marvel experience is coming back as part of the Disney Treasure cruise that sets sail on December 21. As the first variation of it was on the Disney Wish cruise ship, it promises to be an interactive dining experience that showcases many of the heroes of the MCU, including some of the most beloved Avengers.
It appears that includes teasing the Young Avengers, too, because during a media preview of the Disney Treasure, a brand new post-credits scene involving three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's young heroes was revealed. You can watch it below:
The teaser sees MCU stars Xochitl Gomez, Kathryn Newton, and Dominique Thorne reprise their respective roles as America Chavez (a.k.a. Miss America), Cassie Lang (a.k.a. Stature), and Riri Williams (a.k.a. Ironheart). You can also hear the voice of Kerry Condon's F.R.I.D.A.Y. introduce them.
While the events of the Worlds of Marvel experience are not canon to the MCU, the inclusion of this scene in the experience is pretty telling, as the seeds are being planted to set the Young Avengers' arrival in motion.
Cassie Lang has been a part of the Ant-Man franchise since the very beginning in 2015, but in the most recent installment - 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - she finally donned her comic-accurate suit and helped her father, step-mother, and grandparents defeat Kang the Conqueror. Meanwhile, Riri Williams made an impressive debut in 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and will headline her own self-titled Disney Plus series next year, while America Chavez made her memorable MCU debut in that same year, appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
While fans had begun to believe that Marvel had since gone off the idea of a Young Avengers project, it seemed those plans were put back on the table during last year's The Marvels. That film's post-credits scene saw Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel attempt to recruit Kate Bishop (played by Hailee Steinfeld) to join a team of their own. We had not seen Kate since her introduction in Hawkeye in 2021, which was very much the year of the Young Avengers (as many of them were introduced in the various Disney Plus projects).
Another two characters introduced that year were Billy Maximoff and his twin brother Tommy. The sons of the Scarlet Witch, they debuted in WandaVision and had seemingly ceased to exist after the Hex cast by Wanda was taken down. However, Billy was able to reincarnate in the body of William Kaplan and eventually took up his comic book mantle as the hero Wiccan in Agatha All Along. That is, after he managed to find a body for his twin brother Tommy to inhabit. Now all he has to do is find him.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been laying the groundwork for the Young Avengers to unite on-screen for some time now. Seeing Cassie, America, and Riri do so is extremely exciting, but it's likely only the beginning of the Young Avengers' involvement in the MCU franchise. With rumors of that movie finally being in development, it seems like it's only a matter of time until the Young Avengers Era begins.
