Blade will appear in the upcoming Marvel Zombies animated series, although he will not be voiced by two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali. Fans have been waiting to see Ali as Blade ever since it was confirmed in 2019 that he would play the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with a planned solo movie. Although the film has gone through years of issues behind-the-scenes, so whether or not it will eventually get made really is anyone’s guess now. Ali did briefly voice Blade in the post-credits scene at the end of Eternals, but he won't be bringing the character to life in his next MCU appearance.

It has been confirmed that the vampire superhero will be voiced by Todd Williams in upcoming Disney Plus series Marvel Zombies. And this version of Blade will be the same as the incarnation of the character who appeared in the final episode of Marvel's What If...? last year. This version of Blade bared similarities to Moon Knight, and he is known as Blade Knight.

This news comes from ComicBook.com, in which showrunner Bryan Andrews spoke about what fans can expect from the upcoming animated series, saying: “All I can say is, blood will be spilled”

The article also showcased an exclusive image from the series which showed a large wave of zombified heroes and villains preparing for battle, with the image appropriately being tinged with a blood-red color palette. Needless to say, Marvel Zombies is going to be an incredibly violent show which fans of both Marvel and the horror genre will enjoy.

Williams is known for his roles in TV shows such as In Plain Sight, The Chicago Code, The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, and All Rise, while he has appeared in films such as San Andreas and Silver Skies. Strangely enough, this is not the first time Williams has taken over a role from Mahershala Ali, as he also voiced Titan in the third season of Invincible, a character who had been voiced by Ali in season 1. And since Williams in undoubtedly a talented actor, he will no doubt do a great job of bringing Blade Knight to life.

Although this recasting of the role of Blade might surprise people, it's not that unusual for Marvel Animation. Although the animated Disney Plus shows are set on MCU-adjacent earths, the MCU actors don't always reprise their roles, and thus the roles are recast with actors who sound like them. There is no better example of that than Hudson Thames, who voices variants of Tom Holland's Spider-Man in What If...? before going to on voice him in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. He will once again reprise the role in Marvel Zombies.

Running for four episodes, Marvel Zombies will showcase an alternate universe where Marvel's most recognizable heroes and villains are transformed into ravenous zombies. The TV-MA-rated show will also feature the voices of Hailee Steinfeld, Elizabeth Olsen, Simu Liu, and Dominique Thorne, who will all be returning to voice alternate versions of the characters they portrayed in previous MCU projects. The show was produced by Marvel Studios Animation and it will no doubt be a hit when it debuts next month.
