When Ultimate Invasion began, comic book fans witnessed the rebirth of the Marvel Comics universe, built in the eyes of the malicious Maker, Ultimate Reed Richards. His goal was to be the uncontested ruler of this universe, and he accomplished it.
Anyone who was a threat was killed or had their destinies altered. For example, Captain America wasn’t defrosted after World War 2, while Thor was imprisoned while Loki was King of Asgard, and heroes like Colossus and Magik were turned into tyrannical rulers of the Eurasian Republic. He even managed to kill the Eternals and prevent them from being resurrected.
WARNING! UPCOMING SPOILERS FOR ULTIMATE ENDGAME NO. 3!
As the Ultimate universe continued, some of the classic heroes were recruited by Tony Stark (who’s going as Iron Lad) to take back the world. Among them were Luke Cage, a mute Wade Wilson, and America Chavez. Another legendary Marvel Comics hero joined the Ultimates for one final push to take down Maker. Sadly, he was killed in Ultimate Endgame No. 3, and his name was Peter Parker.
The death of a legend
One of the many things that people loved about the Ultimate Universe was Peter Parker’s life. It was one of the few times in history that he was happy and fulfilled. Peter had his aunt and uncle for most of his life; J. Jonah Jameson was like an uncle, and he was married to Mary Jane. To top it all off, they had two wonderful, savvy, and intelligent kids. So, of course, something had to happen to break the hearts of every fan of this ultimate Spider-Man.
During Ultimate Endgame No. 3, Peter, Iron Lad, America Chavez, and Doom were in The City, where time and reality can be manipulated. Peter was holding his own for a while, but the Maker is too smart, especially for a Spider-Man who’s been a hero for two years. The Maker took the symbiote off Peter and used it to turn himself into “Carnage” and kill our beloved Peter Parker.
If we’re being honest, no one expected Peter Parker to survive Ultimate Endgame. Not because he deserved to die. It’s because everything was going too well for him. Plus, Deniz Camp has perfected the art of ripping out the hearts of comic book readers. Plus, it’s not as if this universe is going to continue anyway. Even if it does and the symbiote makes its way out of The City, it would be better for Richard Parker (Peter’s son) to take over as Spider-Man.
Lastly, Ultimate Spider-Man's death will give people more of a reason to continue reading this mini-series. The Maker was already one of the most despicable villains in comics. Now, he'll be hated even more, and people will continue grabbing the issues to see Peter Parker be avenged.
