Popular comic book couples are a cherished thing. When readers find someone they ship then they should be together forever. For example, Jean Grey and Scott Summers, Superman and Lois Lane, and Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson are among the untouchables (despite the latter having been broken up since 2022). It’s the same for people who only watch superhero shows and movies, in this case, we have Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Karen Page.
WARNING! SPOILERS FOR DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN EPISODE 1!
Matt and Karen are an important couple in Daredevil’s lore. She was a source of pain and pleasure in life in Marvel Comics and it appears to be the same on the show. Unfortunately, they aren’t together during Daredevil: Born Again. What was once a mutual decision turned into something else after Foggy’s death. Karen moved to California to avoid things that reminded her of her deceased friend. If you’re a Karen and Matt fan, there's good news on that front.
IGN reports that Daredevil: Born Again showrunner, Dario Scardapane, said, “Families tend to fracture when a loved one passes. And in that fracture, they can re-bond in ways that are surprising and new.” Does that mean Matt and Karen are back together again? No, but it would make sense for a couple of reasons. One of them will leave fans happy. The second, not so much.
On the happier side, Karen and Matt work. She knows his secret and accepts it. Karen may not like it and hate worrying about him, but she understands what he does and why he does it. Yes, Matt is currently dating Heather Glenn, but don’t expect that to last too long.
Karen and Matt broke up in the comics and he can’t hold onto a relationship for longer than a few months. Plus, their relationship isn't crucial to the story. When their eventual separation happens, look for him to get back with Karen. Sadly, that won’t last long either. This time it won’t be Matt’s fault.
This writer doesn’t expect this season of Daredevil: Born Again to have a happy ending and you can blame Bullseye. In the comics, Bullseye kills Karen Page in Daredevil No. 5 (written by Kevin Smith with art by Joe Quesada) and it will happen in this show as well. It’s the best season or episode cliffhanger leave on. You’ll spend time wondering what’s next for Hornhead and if this is the beginning of one of his angriest phases. And it will give comic book fans the ending they've been waiting to see.
