Earth's Mightiest Heroes are bound to assemble on the big screen for the first time in over seven years, and one question lingers in fans' minds: Who will be part of the iconic superhero team? The initial Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement revealed over 25 characters set to appear in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover, and yet the list isn't complete. After all, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that there is still room for more surprises.

Fans have been speculating and theorizing about what surprises are being saved for the release date. The studio has now indirectly confirmed that the Hulk is among them, while rumors suggest heavy-hitters like Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man could make a comeback as well. However, there's one particular mystery that has been making waves over the last few weeks, and that is the identity of the Latverian Witches.

Doctor Doom won't be alone when trying to reign supreme over the multiverse, and the question is: Who else will be by his side? While Marvel has yet to give any official answer, fans are convinced that big heroes will be on his team. Moreover, a lot of hints suggest Doctor Strange will be one of the villain's followers, and an ad may have just confirmed that the sorcerer will have a role to play in the movie.

New Avengers: Doomsday ad could tease the return of Doctor Strange

Jeep collaborated with Marvel on a new ad that has plenty of Avengers: Doomsday references. Captain America appears in the opening shot, flying right next to the New Avengers tower. Moreover, the Fantasticar can be seen moments before H.E.R.B.I.E. and the Human Torch enter the scene, and we can also catch small glimpses of other iconic heroes such as Thor, Nightcrawler, the Thing, Namor, Cyclops, and Professor X.

All these characters and settings have one thing in common: They are all confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. That's why it's a bit shocking to see magic portals opening in the final sequence of the ad. This would all but confirm that a sorcerer is set to play a role in the upcoming superhero crossover.

Now, we need to address the possibility that these portals belong to Wong. After all, he tends to appear in plenty of Marvel projects, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Besides, it's all but a given that the multiverse's fallout is bound to get the attention of the MCU's current Sorcerer Supreme.

That being said, it has been widely reported for weeks now that Doctor Strange will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, particularly as one of the Latverian Witches. If we know something about Stephen Strange, it's that he's one of the most "pragmatic" MCU heroes. That means he could be willing to join Doctor Doom's ranks, especially if he believes the ruler of Latveria has a potential solution to the multiverse's collapse (such as creating Battleworld, for instance).

The last time we ever saw Stephen was in the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where he and Clea embarked on a quest to stop an incoming multiversal incursion. That alone is a big hint that he'll have a key role in the end of the Multiverse Saga, especially considering that he's one of the only characters aware of the dangers of parallel realities and alternate timelines.

Doctor Strange's appearance in Avengers: Doomsday is all but confirmed at this point. Granted, there's a slight chance that Marvel will save the hero's appearance for Avengers: Secret Wars instead, but even the Jeep ad seems to agree that the Master of the Mystic Arts will jump back into action later this year.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
