Many heroes have been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe throughout the years, but few have been as iconic as The Scarlet Witch herself. Not only is she one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse as a whole, but she also has one of the most interesting and heartbreaking arcs.

Wanda Maximoff began her journey as a villain, siding with Ultron and seeking to make Tony Stark pay for the damage his company's weapons caused. She eventually became the strongest Avenger, nearly ending Thanos' life without any help. However, everything changed for the worse the day the Vision died. Mourning the only family she had left, The Scarlet Witch took a whole town captive, used her magic to create two kids, and once they vanished, she wreaked havoc throughout the multiverse looking for alternate versions of her children.

The former villain-turned-hero returned to her roots and became evil once more. Fortunately, she had a change of heart at the very last second and sacrificed herself to destroy all copies of the Darkhold. Now, fans eagerly await her return from the world of the dead, as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmed that we'll see more of her. The only question remaining is, when will she show up next? Well, we could finally have an answer.

Scarlet Witch will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but as a follower of Doctor Doom

The Scarlet Witch might find herself on the wrong side of history once again. According to reliable insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), "there is evidence that points" to Wanda Maximoff appearing in Avengers: Doomsday. However, Elizabeth Olsen wasn't part of the original cast announcement because she wasn't on set, despite her character making an appearance.

The report mentions that characters such as The Scarlet Witch were filmed using stunt doubles wearing masks. That's how the iconic Marvel character could have a role in the movie despite Elizabeth Olsen not reprising the role (just yet). But why would Wanda Maximoff wear a mask during the upcoming MCU crossover? Because most of Doom's followers will do so.

That's right, the iconic hero will side with the Ruler of Latveria.

It's also mentioned that Doctor Doom will have "an ability" that only two people in the MCU have, with Wanda being one of them. The implication here is that the Scarlet Witch will grant the villain this power, and that plot point alone sounds very reminiscent of the Avengers: The Children's Crusade comic book storyline.

During that story, Wanda mourns the loss of the kids she willed into existence. In a desperate attempt to recover what was lost, she asked Doom for help. The two combine their magical powers so that the Scarlet Witch can harness the Life Force itself and resurrect her children. While the first part of the plan worked, the hero used this new ability to make the mutant kind disappear by saying three simple words: "No more mutants."

In the aftermath of such a catastrophic event, Wanda lost her memory and was offered refuge in Doom's castle in Latveria. Without any previous recollection of her life, she fell in love with Victor, and the two nearly tied the knot. However, the Young Avengers helped her remember who she was, but that came at a cost. She was filled with remorse for vanishing mutants from the face of the Earth, and once again asked Doom for help.

The original intention was for the Scarlet Witch to harness the power of the Life Force once more and bring mutants back. However, Doom deceived everyone, and he was the one to get the reality-altering powers instead. In the MCU, this ability to reshape the world around you was already used by Wanda to turn Westview into a sitcom. Now, it could be the key to the formation of Battleworld.

While it isn't surprising to learn that Wanda will be on Doom's side, it will be heartbreaking nonetheless. Hopefully, Avengers: Doomsday not only acknowledges how the hero survived the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it will also give her a compelling reason to listen to Doom. Even if she doesn't have a big role in the upcoming crossover, chances are she will be a key character in Avengers: Secret Wars. Either way, one thing is for certain: Wanda is bound to make an explosive return, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
