Soon enough, we'll return to the twisted, dark, and violent streets of Gotham City... and we couldn't be any happier.

In a time when superhero games were little more than forgettable movie tie-ins (with some awesome exceptions), developer Rocksteady decided to raise the bar with one of the most popular characters ever created. Batman: Arkham Asylum revolutionized the gaming industry thanks to an inventive free-flow combat system, a cinematic story worthy of being displayed on the big screen, and a grim world filled with secrets and interesting lore details in every corner.

The Batman: Arkham saga became so popular over the course of the years that other studios worked on their own projects set within the world that Rocksteady created. WB Games Montréal developed Batman: Arkham Origins, Warner Bros. Animation created a tie-in animated movie in the form of Batman: Assault on Arkham, and more recently, Camouflaj Studios put gamers directly in the shoes of the Dark Knight courtesy of Batman: Arkham Shadow.

Fortunately, the streak won't end any time soon. A new entry in the Batman: Arkham saga is already in the works, according to a person involved in the project. It may not be the long-awaited follow-up to Batman: Arkham Knight (because, let's face it, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League doesn't count), but it's the perfect chance to fill even more of the gaps between the prequel projects and Arkham Asylum.

A Batman: Arkham Shadow sequel is in the works, according to the voice actor behind James Gordon

It seems that Gotham's worries won't end with the Rat King. During an interview with Culture Combine at Fan Expo Chicago 2025, James Gordon voice actor Mark Rolston confirmed that a sequel to Batman: Arkham Shadow is in the works: "Same thing with the Batman Arkham Shadow VR game. We're about to start another one of those".

Batman: Arkham Shadow might be a bit overlooked, considering that it's a VR title. However, it's a fantastic experience that not only introduces its own awesome spin on the free-flow combat system the saga is known for, but it also has a narrative filled with shocking turns that even the most hardcore fans failed to see coming. Furthermore, it can't be overstated how good this game is at hiding secrets and interesting lore details at every step of the way (just like Rocksteady used to do during its golden days).

For years, players wondered about what happened to Anarky after his introduction in Batman: Arkham Origins, or how Bruce and Dick Grayson originally met. Batman: Arkham Shadow not only answered these questions, but it also gave us insight into how Harleen Quinzel was before turning into the infamous Harley Quinn, and what happened to The Penguin's ship after Arkham Origins. The game wasn't only a fantastic entry on its own, but it filled a lot of the gaps that previously existed in the universe's timeline.

While the Batman: Arkham saga is filled with countless fantastic stories and multiple iconic villains, there's still room for more. The Court of Owls exists within this world, but we've never had the chance to explore their backstory or even come face to face with them. Now that a new title is coming, it would be the perfect chance to shine the spotlight on them. Furthermore, Black Mask has always been sidelined by other bad guys, so he could take the role of the main antagonist as well. Players could also witness how Bruce trains Dick or Batgirl during their early years.

There are a lot of stories waiting to be told within the Arkham universe. On the bright side, it seems we'll go back to this mesmerizing version of Gotham sooner rather than later. Granted, it remains to be seen if the upcoming title will be exclusive to Meta Quest yet again, but with a bit of luck, it will be accessible in other VR devices as well, so that more people can experience the great work of Camouflaj Studios.
