The year might be 2025, but Universal is throwing it back to 1993 with the seventh installment in the legendary Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchise. Jurassic World Rebirth arrives in movie theaters this summer and it's set to relaunch one of the most successful film series of all time. And it looks to do so with a whole new story and a whole new cast.

The film, led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, sees that trio arrive on a new island - or, well, an old island - which served as the research facility for the original Jurassic Park. What they find is, of course, a multitude of ancient beasts looking for meals, which promises to make this one every bit as thrilling as its six predecessors.

Now, just two weeks out from its wide release, Universal has released a new Jurassic World Rebirth trailer and, to say that it's a chilling one, would be an understatement.

Jurassic World Rebirth's newest trailer throws it back to 1993 original

Universal has released a brand new trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth and it's really quite something. The clip features some new looks at the scenes that were teased in the previous trailers and there are some truly thrilling sequences in there, primarily spotlighting expanded footage from the gas station on the island and the Spinosaurus run-in in the ocean. But there is one striking difference: The music.

Fans of the original Jurassic Park movie will instantly recognize the haunting score from John Williams that plays over the clip. It's the same music that introduced us to this vivid world of dinosaurs in the first place, playing over the opening moments of the 1993 film. And with that, we're instantly reminded of the fear that this classic film series is capable of instilling in us.

Of course, the opening scene of the original Jurassic Park is the infamous moment when a velociraptor temporarily breaks free from its containment and eats a member of the crew. That has gone down in history as one of the most chilling moments in not the just the Jurassic franchise but all of cinema in general. And honestly, it deserves its spot there, as it highlighted the dangers of the dinosaurs that would feature in the movie and drove home what a force to be reckoned with that the raptors were.

Speaking of the raptors, the trailer also features a visual reference to Jurassic Park. One of the new dinosaurs that will star in the movie is a bit more bird-like than its predecessors, but its feet will bear similarities to that of the velcoraptor, showcased in the scene in which it stalks the young child in the shop. The camerawork in this scene, particularly the focus on the claws that slowly stalk their way up and down the aisles, is a clear reference to Steven Spielberg's camerawork in the 1993 original film. Nice touch, Gareth Edwards - real nice indeed!

Given that Jurassic World Rebirth is written by David Koepp (who penned the script for the original alongside author of the book Michael Crichton) and features a scene that was in Crichton's Jurassic Park novel, it's safe to say that audiences are in for a thrill-ride with this one.

It's time to go back to 1993 (and 65 million years ago!) and relive the grandeur of the Jurassic franchise all over again in Jurassic World Rebirth.

Jurassic World Rebirth arrives in movie theaters on July 2, 2025.
