There's a reason developer Insomniac Games is the best at what it does, even if what they do isn't very nice sometimes. After gaining critical acclaim for their work on the hopeful Marvel's Spider-Man saga and the light-hearted Ratchet & Clank series, the studio was tasked with working on a video game featuring one of Marvel's most violent heroes. Over four years ago, they shocked the world by announcing that Marvel's Wolverine was a reality. Now, they are here to do it all over again.

After a long period of silence, Insomniac finally pulled the curtain on their next anticipated project. During PlayStation's State of Play presentation on September 24, a brand new trailer for Marvel's Wolverine finally debuted, and we can finally say that it was worth the wait. Gameplay mechanics were showcased, iconic characters from the X-Men universe made an appearance, and jaw-dropping graphics were displayed at all times. The trailer was packed with surprises, so it's time to break them all down.

A new Marvel's Wolverine trailer is here, and highlights a Fall 2026 release

Marvel's Wolverine is an upcoming PlayStation 5 game with cutting-edge graphics, a very violent combat system, and what appear to be linear levels featuring many iconic locations around the world. The best part? We won't have to wait long until we play it for ourselves, as it has a release window of Fall 2026. Next year, players will embark on a journey through the streets of Madripoor and the rooftops of Japan, which will serve as a refreshing change of scenery compared to the streets of New York featured in Marvel's Spider-Man.

The trailer showcases Logan wearing different suits: from his iconic black and yellow costume all the way to a more discreet outfit made from a red flannel shirt and a hat. That would all but confirm that there will be unlockable skins, much like in Marvel's Spider-Man. Additionally, we see what appears to be a gameplay transition from Wolverine riding his bike to him jumping over a car convoy. This could be a hint that there will be sections in the game where we'll be able to ride Logan's ever-trusting bike (though nothing has been confirmed yet).

Iconic X-Men characters such as Omega Red and Mystique made an appearance in the trailer, and the final scene showcases a broken Sentinel ready to fight Logan. Furthermore, developers stated that this is just a tease of the number of characters that will make it into the final cut in the game.

One of the aspects in the game that's surrounded in complete secrecy is its story. Fortunately, the official PlayStation blog unveiled that players will follow Logan as he tries to uncover the secrets of his past—a task that will put him at odds with many powerful enemies:

"Our Wolverine, AKA Logan, is played by actor Liam McIntyre, who taps into the rage, pain, and nuances of this iconic character. In this story, he is on the hunt to uncover the secrets of a dark past that keeps eluding him. Unfortunately, in this world, he’ll have to dig his claws deep to pull any shred of information that may lead to answers. Often, that means shredding into a relentless onslaught of enemies who aim to stop him by any means necessary. Fueled by unflinching resilience (and a rapid healing factor), Wolverine won’t go down easy if it means keeping the mission on task."

Insomniac also revealed that they will be showcasing more of Marvel's Wolverine in Spring 2026. So, for the time being, it's nice to get a better taste of what the game will be like and know when we'll finally get to play it. It took a while to get here, but we couldn't be any more excited.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro in Fall 2026.
