A new photo from the set of the upcoming Street Fighter film has been shared by actor Andrew Schulz, and it will leave fans of the franchise beaming with joy.
The photo shows a shadow of actor Cody Rhodes, who is playing Guile in the film, and although only his shadow is visible, the unmistakable silhouette of Guile’s distinct flattop haircut can clearly be seen. This is certainly a fun and creative way to build anticipation around the film without showing too much, and the fact that even a shadow clearly depicts Guile’s haircut showcases how the filmmakers are indeed staying true to the games. Schulz is playing popular character Dan Hibiki in the film, and it is really great to see the actor helping to promote the film in such a unique and creative way.
An adaptation of Capcom's popular fighting game series, Street Fighter is being directed by Kitao Sakurai, who also directed Aardvark and Bad Trip in addition to episodes of Dave, The Eric Andre Show, and Twisted Metal, with Dalan Musson providing the screenplay.
Legendary Pictures is producing the film alongside Sony and Capcom, and filming is now underway in Australia, with the cast including Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, and Aquaman star Jason Momoa as Blanka. Plot details are scarce, but since the filmmakers clearly got Guile’s unique hairstyle right, we can assume that they will also stay true to the games when it comes to the story.
Either way, the film surely will not be worse than the Street Fighter movie from 1994, which was largely derided by fans and critics, although Raúl Juliá received praise for his portrayal of General M. Bison. Another live-action Street Fighter film called Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was released in 2009, although it also did not receive positive reactions from fans or critics. Therefore, fans of the multi-billion-dollar fighting franchise (over 56 million Street Fighter games have been sold to date) can only hope that this new adaptation will finally do the series proud.
Street Fighter does not yet have a confirmed release date, but we can expect distributor Sony Pictures to announce more details regarding the film’s release after filming wraps. For now, fans can only wait and hope that this will finally be the Street Fighter movie they have deserved for so many years.
