3. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
It's no secret there's an absurdly huge gap between the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home and the untitled Spider-Man 4. Almost five years will have passed before audiences see Tom Holland put on the red and blue costume again in a new standalone movie (and let's not forget the recent delay reports make things more complicated). So to make the wait feel a little bit shorter, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is exactly what fans need right now.
We live in a time when a lot of people just want to see the wall-crawler have a proper street-level adventure that doesn't involve the multiverse or Robert Downey Jr. stealing the spotlight as a huge Marvel character (regardless of whether that's Iron Man or Doctor Doom). So the concept of taking the character back to his roots in a Disney+ animated show seems like the perfect way to go. What originally started as the tale of how Tom Holland became Spider-Man in the MCU underwent lots of changes and delays, resulting in a standalone story that doesn't connect to a wider narrative. Audiences will get to see new takes on characters they know and love such as Norman Osborn and Daredevil, as well as a brand new origin for the web-slinger.
The beauty of not having Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man tie into any other Marvel project is that anything could happen. Does Marvel want to turn a new version of Ned Leeds into the Hobgoblin? They can go for it! Jacob Batalon could still play the role of the "guy in the chair" on the big screen. Can we get a new adaptation of The Night Gwen Stacy Died? Absolutely, and it wouldn't be necessary for Spider-Man 4 to introduce the character of Gwen to accomplish that. There's a blank canvas perfect for telling any number of Spider-Man stories without lasting repercussions on the MCU, so fingers crossed Marvel makes the most of it.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be released on January 29, 2025.
