3. Pete Ross (season 7)
Oh Pete Ross, what did they do to you?
Pete was Clark's childhood best friend who left Smallville after learning about his secret. Though Pete's life was in danger at the time, they parted ways on good terms. However, when the pair reunited for an episode in season 7, Pete was completely unrecognizable.
Now ingesting Kryptonite (Clark's biggest weakness) so that it would give him superpowers, Pete didn't like that others knew about his best friend's secret. He didn't like that Clark was an authority on Kryptonite. He also didn't like that he told him not to be a superhero - so much so that he used the green meteor rock on his best friend to weaken him. Sure, he regretted his decision and apologized for his actions, but then he left again and it was as if it never happened. So why did it?
It was all very un-Pete-like and an unforgivable creative choice for a random episode seasons after Pete's departure. It didn't add anything to the overall narrative of the show other than damaging a beloved character almost beyond repair.
Fans hated the choices that were made here and felt that it was a complete disservice to the character. Honestly, I can't argue with that.
