Superhero movies are part of the very lifeblood of Hollywood. If you look at the highest-grossing movies each year, you'll undoubtedly see at least one (but probably three or four) in the top 10.

While always a recurring presence on the big screen, costumed crime-fighters have become a staple of the movies over the past few decades. It was Superman: The Movie and Batman that truly kickstarted the trend in the '70s and '80s respectively, but the success of Marvel Studios' MCU in 2008 turned the comic book adaptations into a much, more regular thing - and now there are so many superheroes on all our screens.

Some might say we're heading towards the era of "superhero fatigue" because there are so many heroic movies these days, but the recent lacklustre performances of some could just be down to the fact that they are lacklustre movies (or exist as part of a lacklustre trend). For the truth is that, for every superhero success, there have been a lot of failures.

When superhero movies fail, fans like to make their opinions known. With that in mind, let's take this opportunity to dive into the annals of movie history and find some of the most disappointing superhero movies ever made; ones that fans just couldn't take a liking too.
