7. Green Lantern

It might be hard to believe this now, but Green Lantern was originally supposed to launch the DC Extended Universe (or whatever Warner Bros.' vision for a shared universe of superheroes was back then). However, it wasn't to be, for the movie was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews and has since found itself constantly dragged over the years for its failures, even by star Ryan Reynolds.

Fans just weren't thrilled about the movie because of its lack of faithfulness to the source material, the fact that it didn't do any justice to Hal Jordan, and its rather dull special effects. Don't get us wrong, this isn't a Justice League situation where the effects were incredibly poor, it's just that they aren't aesthetically-pleasing at all (in the same way that 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania felt).

In all fairness to Green Lantern, harshness towards it has softened over the years, largely because of how well Ryan Reynolds has taken the criticism, and that's why it doesn't rank as highly on this list as it would have if we wrote it in 2011. It was just an uninspired product of its time designed to launch a shared universe without the substance to do it. On its own, it's a pretty decent film that just doesn't have much to say. Sometimes that's okay.
