5. Gotham Knights

Oh to be a DC fan when the Gotham Knights trailer first dropped. The final DC TV series produced for The CW before its sale to Nexstar, there was an air of intrigue about its concept, which felt very old CW meets new CW. And then the trailer dropped, and the dragging commenced.

For a CW show to be a major trending topic on social media in 2022 is pretty impressive, but the tweets weren't positive at all. From the low budget look of the show to the controversial notion that Batman could be killed and a bunch of teenagers could solve his murder, Gotham Knights was abhorred by almost all who watched the preview. And honestly, it's hard to argue with the criticism because that trailer was absolutely dreadful and did the show absolutely no favors (I see we learned nothing from the Batwoman trailer).

It's a shame that the show became a subject of such ire because it actually evolved into a pretty compelling young adult drama by the time its first-and-only-season concluded. The pilot was a bit rough (though nowhere near as bad as the trailer made it seem), but the further it moved away from that and leaned into its ensemble cast of characters, the stronger it became.

I was very skeptical of Gotham Knights after that trailer but the show proved itself. It's just such a shame that very few were willing to give it a chance because there was real potential there.
