10 most romantic superhero movies, ranked
7. Spider-Man: Homecoming
When Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he brought something with him that we hadn't seen too much of prior to that: Teen romance. Fresh off his debut in Captain America: Civil War, he returned in solo adventure Spider-Man: Homecoming and it was just a lovely dose of light-hearted teen drama.
Spider-Man may have to face the end of the world on occasion but he's also just Peter Parker; the lovable nerd in high school who really wants to ask his crush Liz Allan to the Homecoming dance. As a result, Spider-Man: Homecoming feels like a John Hughes movie most of the time, offering up so many butterflies, awkward conversations and heart eyes that you can't help but feel nostalgic thinking about your own teenage years.
This movie is an earnest, fun high school drama with a slice of superheroics thrown in. It works so well in the MCU machine too, because Peter Parker's high school romances have always been what makes him so different from other heroes. These stories are as important to his development as his antics as Spider-Man are, so you never feel like it's taking up too much screentime. If anything, Peter's dynamic with Liz could have been developed a bit further, but there is more than enough heart in the story, and some great chemistry between Tom Holland and Laura Harrier to make you champion them. And hey, it ends up playing a much more important role in the story than you would think.
