4 MCU characters who definitely won't be back in Phase Five

Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff was probably the breakout star of Phase Four. Headlining its very first title (the Emmy-winning WandaVision), she finally ascended to her comic book counterpart's power levels and became the almighty Scarlet Witch. She then returned in a villainous capacity in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which received a mixed response due to the way it handled her arc.

Wanda's last appearance thus far saw her sacrifice herself to destroy the Darkhold in a desperate bid to atone for her heinous actions in the movie. The moment was a powerful one and it very much implied that she died while doing so, with Strange unable to locate any trace of her in his extensive searches. Marvel has also leaned into the notion that we've seen the last of Wanda, telling fans what they don't want to hear.

We have our suspicions and think that the Scarlet Witch will return someday, but we don't expect that day to be in Phase Five. While we wouldn't rule out a cameo appearance from her in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, we don't anticipate the show revealing that the character is still alive in the present day.

Wanda is one of the most powerful beings in the MCU - perhaps the most powerful - and she will likely be needed to help stop the threat of Kang the Conqueror, so expect her return to be a major point-of-no-return-esque moment. With that in mind, there is a strong chance she could be back in one of the Avengers movies in Phase Six.
