2024 promises to be a major year for television but it could also mark the beginning of the end for these particular TV shows.

Harley Quinn

I hate to say this, I really do, but Harley Quinn was incredibly lucky to get a fifth season. While it's not the only animated DC TV show on the air right now, it is the only one that appeals to enough mainstream audiences to be mentioned in the same conversation as all of the live-action shows. The same live-action shows that have almost all been cancelled.

2022 was not a good year to be a DC fan, and 2023 wasn't much better. With the change-in-direction at DC Studios resulting in the launch of a new DC Universe, all of the current DC TV shows were either cancelled or renewed for final seasons. Upcoming movies were cancelled too (heck, completed movies were cancelled).

Harley Quinn and Superman and Lois are the last two remaining DC TV shows from the golden era of DC TV. The latter will end after its upcoming fourth season, and even though that was down to The CW, it wouldn't have continued past a fifth season due to the upcoming relaunch of the DC Universe - a relaunch that begins with Superman: Legacy. That will make Harley Quinn the outlier, so don't be surprised if it falls next.

Even if the show is allowed to remain on the air because it's animated, five seasons is a heck of a run. With that in mind, the decision could be made to end it after season 5, or maybe it will get renewed for a sixth.

We hope we're wrong because Harley Quinn is amazing, but after what DC have put us through lately, we're not getting our hopes up.
