3. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was a nice surprise to have in 2023, as we all know remakes don't usually have the best reputations. What's more, with how amazing of a title the 2010 movie was, the anime adaptation had a lot riding on it. Nevertheless, the creators made nothing but great decisions that helped this anime thrive.

One of the best aspects of this Netflix original series was that all the cast members returned to reprise their respective beloved characters. The creators even went so far as to re-invent a few of these characters, developing their stories further so that longtime fans can get to know a little more about their favorite people.

Another great aspect has to be the animation. Scott Pilgrim just works really well in an anime style since it allows for more fluidity and dramatics. For example, seeing someone get the coins knocked out of them with CGI is much different than seeing it drawn by talented animators, as the animation gives it the nonsensical atmosphere that is integral to the title.

Despite all the wonderful animated moments and great casting choices, Netflix has confirmed this anime is not coming back, meaning only one season is all fans are going to receive.

"We're not working on it [season 2]," executive producer Bryan Lee O'Malley expressed. "We have no official ideas. We put everything we had into this, and we think it was a really great ending that we're proud of."

The odds of a sophomore season of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off are slim, but not zero, as O'Malley just needs a really great idea for season 2. Even if they do come up with something, we're not expecting to see this anime return anytime in 2024.
