6 actors who should replace Ben Affleck as the new Batman
By Cody Schultz
Idris Elba
We don't quite know what the plan is for Idris Elba's Bloodsport within the new DC Universe being built by James Gunn and Peter Safran, but what we do know is that DC should look to keep Elba in the mix as it reboots its universe and what better way to do so than by tapping him to play the Dark Knight?!
Elba is absolutely no stranger to the superhero genre at this point having played Heimdall in the Thor franchise over at Marvel and bringing Bloodsport to life in the DCEU, fittingly in The Suicide Squad which just so happened to be directed by Gunn. Elba has been quick to praise DC for tapping Gunn to oversee its new DC Universe and while he has seemed more interested in returning to the role of Bloodsport than taking on a new character when asked about his future with DC, there is no denying he would make for a perfect Batman.
He has quite a commanding presence on screen, oozes with charisma, and has shown his versatility on the big screen with his wide range of unique characters and roles. There is no denying he could charm as Bruce Wayne while striking fear into the criminals of Gotham as the Dark Knight bringing the brooding intensity we often associate with Batman.
As Deadsport, Elba showed he can lead a superhero franchise and deliver a breakout performance among a larger ensemble which is something DC should be looking for in their new Batman given the plans to build a larger connected universe. With Elba in the role, there is no doubt the DCU Batman would become a standout character who could easily lead the franchise and restore Batman's former glory by giving us a Batman we can actually get behind.
