6 horror movies to watch in 2024 (and 4 to skip)
It's a brand new year, and with it comes the release of many new horror movies. There will be tons of horror flicks coming out throughout 2024. But while some I can't wait to go to the theaters and see, others are a hard pass.
Since there is so much horror content to look forward to this year, you might find yourself overwhelmed. Of course, you can always count on us at Bam Smack Pow to help you out. I've looked over the seemingly never-ending list of horror films coming in 2024 and picked only the best ones to share with you. These are horror flicks I strongly recommend you check out. Also, I shared several that I recommend you skip over.
Naturally, I'd start with one of the most highly anticipated horror movies of 2024, MaXXXine.
MaXXXine
WATCH! You just had to know that I would put MaXXXine on the watch list. It's being called the final movie in the hit X film trilogy by filmmaker Ti West, which also includes the movies X and Pearl. Although I haven't actually watched the new movie yet since it doesn't come out until July 5, 2024, it's still a must-watch because there's just no way it can be bad after two amazing first films. Plus, if you've watched the first two movies, then you must continue on and finish the film series by watching the last film.
MaXXXine is a sequel to X, taking place in 1980s America. After being the sole survivor of a bloody massacre, aspiring actress Maxine moves to Los Angeles in the early '80s with her sights set on becoming a star in the acting world. But, of course, wherever Maxine goes, trouble follows.
Mia Goth returns to play the lead role of Maxine. Talented actors such as Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon join her in the cast. Grammy-nominated singer Halsey also stars in the movie.
According to Ti West, a fourth film set in the same universe could be made in the future, depending on the success of MaXXXine. What's Under the Bed? interviewed West in February 2024, and he discussed the possibility of a fourth movie.“There is this one weird idea that I have that is kind of… if I explained it, it would make sense,” West told What's Under the Bed “But we’ll see what happens. Let’s get this movie done first, see if people like it. Then we’ll go from there.”
