The DC Universe is currently preparing for its relaunch. Under DC Studios' James Gunn and Peter Safran, the movie series will start over, kickstarting a brand new chapter in the history of DC characters on the big screen and the small screen. The franchise officially launches with animated series Creature Commandos whenever it debuts in winter of this year, before Gunn's own-directed Superman brings in the mainstream audiences in July next year.

Gunn and Safran are no strangers to both the superhero and the DC genre. The latter has been involved in a number of DC productions while the former is best known for his critically-acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel Studios (he also directed DC's The Suicide Squad).

Gunn has also teased fans with the possibility of seeing a number of Marvel stars appear in his DC productions going forward. While fans were initially expecting a number of Guardians of the Galaxy stars to appear in the franchise, a new report claims that a different Marvel legend will make his impact on DC in one of the franchise's most anticipated shows.

Josh Brolin reportedly offered Hal Jordan role in Lanterns

According to a new report from Nexus Point News, Josh Brolin has been offered the role of Hal Jordan in DC Studios' upcoming Lanterns series. The legendary Green Lantern character will be considered a veteran of the Green Lantern Corps, while John Stewart will reportedly be the rookie of the team. It is not yet clear whether Brolin has accepted the role or not.

Brolin is no stranger to DC, having played Jonah Hex in the 2010 film, but he's undoubtedly best-known to comic book fans for having portrayed The Mad Titan, Thanos, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Big Bad of the MCU's Infinity Saga, he appeared in smaller roles in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Avengers: Age of Ultron, before going on to play a leading role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He also voiced the character in episodes of animated Disney Plus series What If...?.

Thanos isn't the only Marvel role that Brolin is known for. He also portrayed the antihero Cable in Deadpool 2, which is part of Fox's X-Men film series. A sequel to that movie, Deadpool and Wolverine, crossed over with the MCU (now that Marvel Studios owns the movie rights), retroactively establishing Cable as a part of the wider MCU Multiverse too.

Lanterns is one of the few remaining remnants from the previous DC leadership. While the show was originally envisioned as a part of the DC Extended Universe set to stream on Max with Arrowverse veteran Greg Berlanti overseeing it, it was repackaged as part of the new DC Universe, with Gunn and Safran now overseeing it as a part of the new franchise instead (along with showrunner Chris Mundy and executive producers Tom King and Damon Lindelof). It is set to serve as one of the titles of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. It will also now air on HBO, but it is also expected to stream on Max simultaneously.

The notion of Josh Brolin playing the role of Hal Jordan is pretty ironic considering his Deadpool 2 co-star Ryan Reynolds played the same role in 2011's infamous Green Lantern movie. Whether he accepts the role or not remains to be seen, but even though it remains a rumor for now, Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello backed up the report on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), congratulating Nexus Point News on the scoop.

It would definitely be a great casting given Brolin's knack for playing captivating characters extremely well. It would also be pretty ironic to see the greatest enemy of Marvel's Avengers become one of DC's most iconic Justice League heroes.
