2. Elemental
Elemental might not have been the biggest hit at the box office, but don't let that fool you. Elemental beautifully explores the complexities of cultural differences, celebrating diversity while highlighting the power of acceptance and understanding through its beautiful storytelling and equally beautiful animation.
Ember's journey as a fiery and determined young woman, navigating a world where elemental differences mirror societal challenges, is a beautiful immigrant tale. Her resilience in embracing her heritage while forging her own path is beautifully showcased across the film and perfectly complimented with the story of her relationship with Wade, which showcases how differences complement rather than divide.
Elemental succeeds not just in its animation but with its storytelling, providing a heartwarming and essential tale for audiences of all ages. It emphasizes that strength lies in embracing our uniqueness and the richness that comes from varied perspectives.
This is a movie that kids and parents both fell in love with and reminded us once again how incredible Disney and Pixar are together. Elemental was not only one of the best family movies of the year but one of the best movies of 2023, period. It was full of so much heart and truly one of the most visually stunning movies 2023 had to offer.
