Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and the best anime of 2023

3. Oshi no Ko
At first glance, we thought Oshi no Ko was going to be yet another Isekai anime about someone who was underperforming in their original life but suddenly self-actualizes when they are transported into another reality. Though we didn’t stray too far from this with this anime, we will admit that this 2023 title used this tried and true trope and turned it into something extravagant.
In this anime, a doctor becomes the young boy of a teenage pop sensation. Initially, he thought that life would be easy and full of cover, but when he learns that his mother’s life comes with safety issues at every turn, he realizes that he’s been viewing the lives of musicians from rose-colored glasses, he immediately regrets it.
Now, on a mission to avenge his slain mother, he sets out to walk in her footsteps while also uncovering the mystery behind who killed her.
Perhaps all Isekai anime need a plot as juicy and unnerving as this one. Who knows? Maybe Oshi no Ko set a standard for many anime to come!
4. Buddy Daddies
Where would the anime community be without slice-of-life shows like Buddy Daddies?!
The show follows the life of Miri, a young girl who is all by herself after Special Ops killed her father. The ones responsible for Miri’s father’s death, Rei and Kazuki, are now tasked with taking care of her until their organization can sort out what to do with her. And thus, the chaos ensues.
Miri is a lot to handle, as she is super hyper and just wants to have a good time, while Rei and Kazuki know next to nothing about raising children. This creates a nice concoction of a lovely mess that is so fun to watch and even harder to turn away from. But don’t be fooled! This anime also has tons of important moments that teach us the value of friendship and found family.
Buddy Daddies is yet another anime that will show you make laugh but will also leave you feeling like you’re getting a big, warm hug from that person you love, which is why we can’t help but say this is one of the best releases of this year.
