11. Skip and Loafer
We’re in love with the feeling of love, which is why putting Skip and Loafer on this list was an easy choice.
Skip and Loafer tells the story of a young girl from a small city where not much happens. But when she moves to Tokyo, a much, much bigger city, her life is flipped upside down for the better.
Amongst enrolling in a new school and meeting tons of new people, she meets a kind, cute boy who would do anything to make sure she’s safe and having fun. Somewhere along the way, this adorable friendship blossoms into something more, leaving us (and many other anime fans) smitten over a budding relationship.
Make no mistake about it, though! Skip and Loafer is different from other shojo or romance anime since it discusses serious subjects that you won’t see in your average shojo, such as sexuality, identity, and anxieties about growing up. Romance is in the middle of this show, but it is by no means the end-all-be-all. All this and more is why you should catch up on this anime at the start of the new year!
12. The Apothecary Diaries
The Apothecary Diaries is an anime that is certainly on its way to becoming a staple in the community. We don’t say this lightly, as we know there are a lot of anime giants out there. However, when you think about this anime’s ability to make your heart swoon when you least expect it, it’s hard to not imagine this title being among those that will go down in history as the show that people watch to feel good.
We watch someone who is forced to live a life they don’t necessarily want to turn into a person who makes the most out of their current situation and turns it into the better. What’s more, our protagonist, Maomao becomes someone who catches the eye of important people who can change her life even more. And if that wasn’t enough good luck for her, she also gets some romantic attention from a very handsome suitor.
This anime has loads of funny moments, so even if you don’t want to watch people fall in love, you have the chance to still be thoroughly entertained.
