Batman director swears off superhero movies: 'It’s not something I’d be interested in'

One of the most iconic Batman movie directors has made it clear he's not exactly interested in directing a superhero movie... at least not now.

When it comes to iconic directors, no superhero franchise has had more top-tier directors than the Dark Knight.

Over the years, DC has managed to lure in some of the most talented directors in the game to oversee its many Batman movies with the likes of Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, Matt Reeves, and Zack Snyder all lending their talents and visions to help bring Batman to the big screen.

These directors are responsible for some of the greatest superhero movies in the entire genre, each bringing their own unique style to create unique worlds and spins on the iconic characters from DC Comics. While there have been some misses along the way, the Batman movies are some of the most talked about and beloved films in the superhero genre and have given DC some of their biggest hits at the box office over the years.

Fans would love to see the likes of Nolan, Burton, and Synder, return to the superhero world to direct a future project – be it a Batman film or something entirely different – but it seems there is at least one name in that mix who has no desire to return to the genre.

Tim Burton isn’t interested in directing another superhero movie

Tim Burton might be behind two of the most iconic Batman films of all-time and truly is the man responsible for making superhero films a success on the big screen, it seems he has no interest in returning to direct another superhero movie…at least at the moment.

While discussing his latest film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Burton reflected on working on his two Batman films with pride but when asked about returning to direct another superhero film he made it clear it’s not something he’s interested in.

“At the moment, I would say no,” Burton told Variety. “Like I said, I come at things from different points of view, so I would never say never to anything. But, at the moment, it’s not something I’d be interested in.”

The good news is that Burton isn’t entirely ruling out a return to the genre in the future, but it’s clear we shouldn’t be expecting him to return to the mix which is a shame. Batman ‘89 and Batman Returns remain two of the strongest and most iconic superhero films to have ever graced the big screen, and those films were both released over 30 years ago. Just imagine what he could achieve in today’s landscape with how far technology has come when looking at all he was able to achieve with Batman ‘89 and Batman Returns.

One can only imagine what a Tim Burton-directed superhero film would look like in today’s day and age, and we can only hope that one day we might get to see Burton back at the helm of a superhero project be it reteaming with DC Studios or making the jump to Marvel Studios!
