Comic book costumes are a weird thing. Something so simple can make or break a character. A hero or villain with colors that don’t match the being's personality can turn people off. On the flip side, they can make readers give a character a chance.

We’ve seen simple looks like Daredevil’s red to complex ones like Hyperion. Both are easily recognizable. However, only one of them is well known. The metal part of Hyperion’s costume makes zero sense. In some ways, it could have hurt the character. It looks silly. Yet we know it when we see it.

For decades, we’ve seen costumes (or uniforms) that have been created and almost immediately discarded. Some of them don’t get past the design stage. There are also the ones that survive the test of time. A look so good and iconic that changing it is a mistake. It's shocking how many haven’t been changed or had slight alterations. Others are only recently getting the right look. Then you have the ones that are more than just a look.

This writer will break down the best and worst looks in comic books. Let's start with one of the best of all time.
