Shazam: Fury of the Gods is another disappointing release of 2023. The sequel to the hit movie, Shazam!, grossed about a third of what the first movie did at the box office in 2019. It's hard to pinpoint what exactly went wrong here, but the movie just never lived up to the high-ish bar of its predecessor.

Again, Shazam: Fury of the Gods is not a bad movie! Is it the best of the DCEU? No, but it has most of the charm of the first movie. It feels like the superhero bubble burst a little bit with Shazam: Fury of the Gods. It should have been the canary in the coal mine for the rest of the DCEU movies coming in 2023. I don't think one of the four DCEU movies exceeded box office expectations. Five years ago, this movie would probably be crossing $300 million, but not in 2023. I mean, look at that cast list! Warner Bros. had high hopes for this movie, and it just didn't live up to the hype.

But, hey, you can watch, both, Shazam! and Shazam: Fury of the Gods on Netflix right now. No one had that on the 2023 bingo card either.
