It seems Bob Iger might be in his Thanos era because he’s just snapped away three Marvel movies Kevin Feige was actively developing… or at least that’s what new rumors suggest.

According to Marvel scooper Daniel Richtman, Iger decided to cancel three Marvel Studios projects in development all of which would have been sequels to previous projects that didn’t exactly perform the best at the box office. The three movies Iger apparently chose to cancel include a fourth Ant-Man movie, a third Captain Marvel film, and an Eternals sequel.

Interestingly, the decision reportedly was made by Iger directly who is reportedly said to have decided to put a stop to the films fearing they would bomb at the box office in looking at the earnings for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, and Eternals. White Iger didn’t feel confident in proceeding with the projects, rumors suggest Feige wanted to proceed with the films and felt particularly interested in moving forward with Eternals 2.

While Ant-Man 4, Captain Marvel 3, and Eternals 2 had never been announced, Iger choosing to cancel the projects does track with recent comments Iger made during a recent Disney Investors Q&A in which he announced a few projects had been killed.

“We’ve not been that public about it, but we’ve killed a few projects already that we just didn’t feel were strong enough,” Iger revealed on the call. (H/T: Cinemablend

Eternals 2 might still happen, just not as a direct sequel

Although rumors suggest that Bob Iger has canceled Eternals 2 and therefore that Marvel Studios is not proceeding with a direct sequel to the 2021 film, that doesn’t mean the project is dead.

Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello has reported that Eternals 2 is not canceled, the project has just been “transformed.” This seems to suggest that while there might not be a direct sequel, Marvel Studios is looking to still bring the Eternals back into the mix. That honestly makes sense.

Given Eternals didn’t do the best at the box office and Disney is looking to take fewer risks, pivoting from a direct sequel in favor of perhaps a project that finds a way to bring the Eternals into the more connected MCU would be a smart call. This allows the characters to continue their journey, but perhaps as part of a shared story that could feature other existing MCU characters.

It certainly helps that Kevin Feige is a fan of the characters and film, having wanted to proceed with a sequel before Iger reportedly canned the project. Having Feige in their corner is sure to help the Eternals’ odds of maintaining a place within the MCU and we’d definitely love to see the cast back in action in some capacity.
