Marvel star casts doubts on return to the MCU following failed film
This year’s SDCC has just wrapped and Marvel definitely made a big splash delivering major reveals and announcements causing a resurgence of interest in the cinematic universe including the confirmation that Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to the MCU. Not much was said about the future of many Marvel stars, including Captain Marvel star Brie Larson.
Although Marvel's Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, was faced with mixed reactions it seems there is still more to be seen from the powerful lead along with her team but could the cast return?
Brie Larson was recently interviewed with The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast in which she spoke on her critically acclaimed Apple TV limited series Lessons in Chemistry, Larson also teased what’s next for her within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although she was not present during Marvel’s Hall H panel at SDCC she was very aware that Marvel Studios was going to be presenting and was just as shocked as everyone was at some of the announcements including one MAJOR reveal which you can read about here. Larson said she learned in real time just as the reveal happened.
When asked about her role in the future of the MCU along with her fellow leads Iman Vellani and Teyonah Paris, and how much of a role Captain Marvel will play in the upcoming Avengers films Larson seemed to cast a bit of doubt over whether she'll return and wouldn't reveal anything about her future with Marvel.
“I just loved being with those ladies so much,” said Larson. “And I think that the sentiment of it is so right to me and is much more where I’m at in my life, which is, there’s no one superhero that can save us. It takes all kinds of people that have their own special skill sets and the ability to understand that the brink of disaster cannot be stopped by one. It’s all of us coming together. So that feels really right to me. And you know, as for the future, there’s things that I know, but I can’t tell you. I can’t say anything and I can’t even say that I don’t know anything because that might mean that there’s something to say or not say,” she said. “So I’ll just say that I can’t say.”
The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems promising with some newfound hope with the latest storyline developments and with recent box office success found in Deadpool and Wolverine showing how well the Fox/X-Men characters are received in the MCU by fans and critics alike.
Most of The Marvels stars seemingly act coy when it comes to dishing out details on their roles in the grand scheme of things but by now we should all be accustomed to expecting anything and believing when we see it on the big screen. We hope to see Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau back in the MCU soon enough especially knowing how Captain Marvel has a very famous storyline with the X-Men as well that could be played out for the show.
Let's just hope that Larson's time in the MCU is not over.
