7 Easter Eggs you missed in the Captain America: Brave New World trailer
The waiting is finally over! The teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World is here and it is packed with lots of exciting reveals. First and foremost; this is our first official look at Harrison Ford as General Ross after the role was recast following the unfortunate passing of William Hurt in 2021. Audiences also get to (briefly) see Red Hulk's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will undoubtedly bring a lot of joy to Marvel fans around the world! And, of course, we also see the return of Isaiah Bradley after his introduction in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
But while those are some of the evident reveals, this teaser trailer is hiding many more secrets if we take a close look. Better yet; some of them could have huge ramifications for the MCU. So, without further ado, here are all the Easter Eggs we were able to spot in the Captain America: Brave New World first look!
1. The frozen Celestial is back
Remember how a whole Celestial named Tiamut was frozen in the ocean in the Eternals only for the MCU to never acknowledge it again? Well, it appears those days are finally gone. Throughout the trailer of Captain America: Brave New World, we get little glimpses of a battle taking place right next to Tiamut.
The first time where you can spot the giant Celestial comes at the 31-second mark when a battleship launches missiles into the air. If you look at the background of the scene, you'll get to see Tiamut's hand rising above the water. Now fast-forward to the 1:31 mark on the trailer, and you'll also see Sam flying right in front of Tamut's hand as well. So now we need to ask: What implications does this have for the movie's plot?
2. Adamantium is seemingly confirmed to appear in the movie
This isn't the first time we've heard about the frozen Celestial playing a big part in Captain America: Brave New World (be warned: potential spoilers will follow ahead). According to previous leaks, government agencies around the world - including Japan - will try to fight for Tiamut's remains as it is the source of Adamantium in the MCU (you know, the rare material from which Wolverine's claws are made).
That theory is seemingly confirmed thanks to a shot in the 23-second mark. In it, we get to see a radar tracking ships near Tiamut's remains while a jet with the label "JPN" is rapidly approaching. On the 26-second mark, two of these jets are flying around and we see how they have a red circle on their wings (resembling that of Japan's flag). This all but confirms the Japanese government will be fighting to get ahold of Tiamut's remains, giving a lot of credibility to the rumors. Now the only question remaining is: How will the introduction of Adamantium affect the MCU?
3. The return of Bucky Barnes' brainwash room?
There's a question on everybody's minds after watching the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World which is: Why would Isaiah Bradley shoot Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross? He is one of the good guys, after all. Well, there are two possible theories for this. The first one (and most likely) is that he's being controlled by The Leader - who can brainwash people in comic books. After all, the supervillain is confirmed to make an appearance in the movie (but more on that later).
However, there's another detail in the trailer that could hint towards a different method of brainwashing; one that Bucky Barnes is very familiar with. At the 58-second mark in the trailer, we see how Sam Wilson and Joaquín Torres are exploring an underground bunker similar to that where Bucky Barnes was trapped in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. Besides, exactly at the one-minute mark, we also see a red room with a metal chair on it that has straps to grab a person's arms along with a head support of sorts.
While it isn't exactly the same room or chair where The Winter Soldier was brainwashed in previous movies, it sure looks like a variation of it. Perhaps it was the first iteration of the device created by Arnim Zola when he first recovered Bucky Barnes' body? So this is the place where Isaiah could've been brainwashed in order to attack General Ross.
4. Sam's signature move
At the 1:02 mark in the trailer, we see Captain America kick two henchmen while also doing a spin in the air. This is not the first time we've seen him do that, as Sam performed that exact move at the beginning of Captain America: Civil War when trying to stop Crossbones' men from getting his hands on a deadly virus.
It may be a really small detail, but one that proves Sam is still the same man even if he now has to live up to a greater title. I guess old habits never die!
5. The Leader makes a return after many years
Remember how The Incredible Hulk - one of the MCU's earliest movies - teased Samuel Sterns would turn into the supervillain The Leader at a future point, only to completely abandon that story? Well, many years later, we'll finally see the continuation of that arc, and we couldn't be more excited!
At the 1:04 mark in the trailer, we get our first look at The Leader from behind as he's talking on a phone. But how do we know it is him? Well, first of all, you can see that this character's skin is green, which is enough of a hint. But what really gives it away is that - if you turn on subtitles - it states that Samuel Sterns is the one talking on the phone. So, if you add those two things together, it becomes evident that The Leader will finally make his big screen debut!
6. Cap sports a new suit
At the 1:31 mark in the trailer, we can see Sam Wilson sporting a brand-new suit (one that was already leaked in promotional materials). Interestingly enough, he's also wearing a new helmet which appears to be a mix between the Quantum suits used in Avengers: Endgame and Falcon's visor.
While Sam is relatively new to being Captain America, it is nice to know his super-suit wardrobe is already growing! Could this be the only new suit he'll get to wear? Or will the movie surprise us with another brand-new look? I guess only time will tell.
7. Our first look at the new Falcon in action
Last, but not least, at the 1:34 mark on the trailer, we see Captain America flying in the air accompanied by Joaquín Torres as the new Falcon! Joaquín's character was introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, but audiences never got to see him wearing the super suit. Fortunately, that's all about to change as he'll take up Sam's previous mantle and become the MCU's one and only Falcon going forward. Let's just hope he brings as much charisma to the role as Anthony Mackie did in previous years!
