Two HUGE classic Marvel heroes returning for multiple movies, reports say

It sounds like two major Marvel heroes could be back for multiple major Avengers adventures, and that's a very good thing for the MCU.

As Marvel Studios' Multiverse Saga edges towards its halfway point, attention has finally begun to settle on the two Avengers movies that will bring the story to a close. It's still a far bit off, with the second of those films (Avengers: Secret Wars) not expected to arrive in movie theaters until 2027, but it's an exciting prospect for fans of the franchise, because it sets an endgame while also increasing anticipation in terms of what they can expect from the films.

That's especially true when you have a movie like Deadpool and Wolverine on the horizon. If Marvel can surprise us with a game-changer like that one (that will no doubt feature countless cameos and returns), what can they do to surprise us with the Multiverse Saga's final chapters? You could say the same about Spider-Man: No Way Home as the 2021 film was one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most monumental movies and it came towards the start of the Multiverse Saga.

It's ironic that those are the two movies we mentioned, because a new report has suggested that some of the returns featured in those movies were just scratching the surface, as two of those classic Marvel heroes could return for much bigger roles going forward.

Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine rumored for multiple Avengers movies

According to a new report from Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, both Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will return for multiple Avengers movies. Both of these characters, who will have made pivotal returns in their own respective Multiverse Saga movies at that point, had previously been rumored to return in Avengers: Secret Wars, to help see off this chapter of the MCU in unforgettable fashion, but this one suggests we could see more of them than that.

The scoop doesn't say which movies they would appear in exactly, but as there are only two Avengers movies on the MCU's immediate release calendar, we can assume that it means both Avengers 5 (formerly titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty) and Avengers: Secret Wars. Of course, there is always the chance that they could return in future Avengers movies too, but as the Multiverse Saga would be over at that point, it might not make sense to have multiversal heroes featured (especially when Marvel Studios will be focusing on its own Spider-Man and X-Men characters).

This particular Spider-Man and Wolverine have already played an important role in the Multiverse Saga. Maguire appeared in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, reprising the role for the first time since 2007 when he appeared in the third and final film of the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy (Andrew Garfield, from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man movies, also appeared alongside him). Meanwhile, Jackman his set to reprise his role as Logan, a.k.a. Wolverine, from the classic Fox X-Men film series in this summer's Deadpool and Wolverine.

When it comes to Marvel movies pre-MCU, these are undoubtedly the two most familiar faces, as both Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and the Fox X-Men film series were popular superhero movies at a time when there weren't many superhero movies. With that in mind, it makes sense that these two would be the multiversal heroes with the biggest roles in the MCU's Multiverse Saga. And given that they've both played pivotal roles in the franchise already (or they will have by the time the next Avengers movies come out), it's exciting to think that they could continue to feature in a major capacity going forward.

Maguire's role in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Jackman's role in Deadpool and Wolverine are that of leading stars, so their returns already amount to much more than just cameo appearances. To hear that they could continue to be involved in the Multiverse Saga in a major capacity going forward is just so incredibly fulfilling for fans of both characters.

Here's hoping that this is a rumor that turns out to be true, because it's one of the most exciting we've heard yet.
