DC Comics is in the middle of its summer event Absolute Power. Amanda Waller and her Task Force VII Amazos have stolen powers from most of the heroes in the world, jailed them, and put the world on lockdown. It’s so bad that heroes outside of Earth can’t come to their rescue.

Despite everything happening in the comic book world, DC Comics made major announcements a week before San Diego Comic-Con, giving fans an idea of what's coming. And it sounds amazing!

Are you All In?

Just as Absolute Power concludes, a bigger threat arises. A new and more dangerous Darkseid attacks. Of course, the heroes of the DC Universe will step in. However, their battle causes ripples throughout the multiverse leading to a new universe unlike anything we’ve seen.

The universe is being called the Absolute Universe. DC.com says, “Here, DC’s biggest icons come of age with fewer advantages while facing greater opposition than ever before and retaining the immutable heroism that continues to inspire and entertain fans.” This happens in DC All In Special No. 1 on October 2 (written by Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson). After that, fans get a collection of all-star creators for DC Comics’ Absolute Trinity.

Absolute Trinity

Writer Scott Snyder and artist Nick Dragotta bring us Absolute Batman. This is a Dark Knight without money, a butler, or a mansion. What kind of Batman does this create? The images of Absolute Batman have shown Batman to be bigger than ever. Is this Dark Knight a killer? Is this even Bruce Wayne?

Writer Jason Aaron and artist Rafa Sandoval bring you Absolute Superman. Like Batman, he doesn’t have any of the things that made him the Man of Steel we know. There’s no Fortress of Solitude, no family, and, most importantly, no Kents. This could be the most interesting version of the Trinity.

Last, but certainly not least, we have writer Kelly Thompson and artist Hayden Sherman creating Absolute Wonder Woman. Without Themyscira or her sisters to help her grow, what kind of Wonder Woman does the world get? One thing’s for sure, her design is amazing and she’s riding a flying horse with red eyes. It may seem like she's ready for war, but maybe this is a more compassionate Diana. No matter what's going on, I’m all in (pun intended).

Who else could appear?

We know DC Comics' Trinity will appear, but who else could we see? Easy guesses are The Joker, Lex Luthor, and Cheetah. They’re the main rivals of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Their appearances and backstories should be different as well. However, these heroes have other villains too. If this universe is as messed up as it seems, imagine what Ares, Amanda Waller, and The Riddler are like.

On the side of the heroes, any of the Green Lanterns, Aquaman, and The Flash should have interesting takes. There’s also no way we don’t see characters like Harley Quinn, Green Arrow, or Dick Grayson. They’re staples in the DC Comics universe. Even if they don’t meet their normal teammates, they’ll be seen or referenced, right? Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to see what happens in the Absolute Universe and who pops up.
