4 DC shows that definitely won't be back

A new era is set to begin for DC Studios, but don't expect to see these shows return for new seasons.

The Flash

When you think about all of the pivotal TV shows based on a DC Comics character, The Flash has to be at the top of that list. Yes, it was spun out of the highly-successful Arrow but it became a bigger hit for both the network and DC TV shows in general, reaching audiences of all ages - and mainstream audiences at that. It went on become The CW's biggest hit ever and ran for nine seasons.

If you were following along with the world of the Arrowverse and The CW news over the past two years, you likely caught that the show would end with its ninth season (which aired on screens last year). But if you're one of the countless who watched it on Netflix or on other services around the world, you might still be waiting for a tenth season to arrive. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen.

The Flash suffered the same fate as its DC counterparts and yet avoided it at the same time. Caught up in both The CW's sale to Nexstar and the Warner Bros./Discovery merger, it ended earlier than initially thought (many thought it would bow out with season 10) but its legacy as perhaps the most successful DC show ever prevented it from being outright cancelled. Thus, it got to end on its own terms. And even though the creative team dropped the ball with season 9, that final shot of Barry Allen smiling is enough to make any Flash fan emotional.

The ending of The Flash was sad for many reasons but the journey was spectacular.
