Dead Boy Detectives gets exciting update as fans hope for a second season

Dead Boy Detectives is part of Warner Bros.' FYC campaign, which is a huge vote of confidence as fans eagerly hope that the Netflix show gets renewed for season 2.

Dead Boy Detectives has quickly made an impression on Netflix fans around the world. One of the few remaining DC TV shows in existence, the show is based on comic book characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner and it premiered in April this year, earning itself a devoted fanbase pretty quickly.

Starring George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as the titular characters, the show follows ghosts Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland as they seek to help ghosts solve mysteries so that they can cross over and find peace. But peace isn't something that Edwin and Charles are after, as they are on the run from Death herself, hoping to avoid their own fates so that they can save others.

The show, which is a spinoff of The Sandman, has now been on the platform for a month, so its fans are hoping that it will get renewed for a second season. While Dead Boy Detectives season 2 has yet to be officially greenlit, this exciting development does bode well for it; at the very least helping its chances.

Dead Boy Detectives chosen as part of Warner Bros. FYC campaign

As revealed by Dead Boy Detectives co-showrunner Steve Yockey on his Instagram Story, the Netflix series is among the TV shows that Warner Bros. have selected for their For Your Consideration campaign. If you don't know, that means the studio will be promoting it during awards season in the hopes of it landing some nominations. On the ConsiderWB site, it is listed among a number of drama shows that Warner have chosen for their FYC campaign along with All American, The Cleaning Lady, Found, The Girls on the Bus, and Manifest.

This doesn't necessarily guarantee that it will get nominated for any awards at the major ceremonies (the vast majority of them tend to snub genre programming), nor does it guarantee a season 2 renewal, but it is a huge vote of confidence from Warner Bros. who obviously consider it an Outstanding Drama. It's particularly important to Dead Boy Detectives as it will ensure that the show remains in the public sphere now that its initial release window has come and gone, likely even encouraging others to check it out. And the levels of engagement it could produce might ultimately be what gets it renewed for season 2 if successful.

The show has enjoyed success since its premiere on Netflix, debuting at No. 2 in its first week of release. Though it fell to No. 3 in the second week, it actually increased viewership numbers and watch hours. The latter is Dead Boy Detectives' secret weapon; the watch hours are higher than that of shows that reached larger audiences, suggesting a stronger completion rate. Yes, high viewership is important, but the higher number of watch hours that DBD has suggests that the vast majority of those who watch the show are watching right through to the end. And that proves that its core audience is enjoying it.

An FYC campaign will ensure that the show is advertised during awards season, hopefully helping it reach larger audiences. Here's hoping that there is a second season to entertain those new viewers, and the ones who have been watching from the very start.

Give Dead Boy Detectives all the awards (and that second season please, Netflix!)!
