Deadpool 3 trailer breakdown: [SPOILER] and Wolverine arrive
Summer can't come quick enough. The good weather will bring Deadpool 3 with it, as the upcoming Marvel Studios movie is set for release this July; and after the first trailer made its debut during the Super Bowl LVIII, there is nothing but excitement for it.
What's the excitement all about? Where to even begin, honestly? The film will officially bring Ryan Reynolds' foul-mouthed anti-hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, feature the arrival of a beloved X-Men, and perhaps even have some other unexpected cameos in there too.
It's one of the most anticipated movies of the year and that anticipation has only surged after the release of the first teaser trailer. But what can we expect from the film? Let's break down the major stories from the trailer, shall we?
Deadpool is back!
Before we dive into the multiversal madness we can expect from Deadpool 3, we must acknowledge the return of the Merc With A Mouth himself. It's been a minute since we have seen Ryan Reynolds' beloved hero and seeing the trailer just reminded us all how much we loved the character (and it was also a clear reminder of why he's still so popular).
A lot has changed since Deadpool 2, particularly the fact that Wade Wilson is now a part of the MCU. The film will likely have its hand in some multiversal explanations as to how that's even possible and we're ready to find out.
We'll say this: Seeing Deadpool back in action made us so happy. Not only does his suit look great, it looks like the character hasn't lost a step with this transition into the MCU. And if the teaser is anything to go by, this could be his best adventure yet.
The TVA take Deadpool out of his world
We've all been wondering how Deadpool would end up in the MCU and now we know: The Time Variance Authority, a.k.a. The TVA, take the Merc With A Mouth of his universe and bring him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, Deadpool himself has a blast cracking jokes about he's set to be the MCU's savior and he could very well be right.
We first met the TVA in Loki and they are an ancient organization tasked with protecting the sacred timeline. We don't yet know what they want with Wade Wilson but it appears that they are the ones who will be setting the whole event in motion, and what an event it's going to be.
It also seems like they are the ones responsible for setting him on this collision course with a familiar face.
Pyro makes a cameo
The Deadpool 3 teaser trailer was primarily focused on teasing the premise of the upcoming movie, but it also made some time to tease us with some welcome cameo appearances. We've mentioned how it featured a surprise appearance from the TVA, you know who else it featured given the title, but it also had an unexpected return.
The trailer confirms that Aaron Stanford will return as Pyro, a role he has previously played in X-Men movies X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand. The actor also recently appeared in Fear The Walking Dead so he's more than familiar with pop-culture-shifting franchises, but it will undoubtedly be awesome to see him reprise his most famous role.
It's unclear how big of a role he will play, but it appears that Pyro is watching the showdown between Deadpool and Wolverine, exclaiming that he loves "this part". The question is: Will he get involved?
Wolverine returns
We didn't get too much of a look at Wolverine as the Deadpool 3 trailer really succeeded in its existence as a teaser trailer. But it obviously alluded to his appearance, which was absolutely the right choice because Logan's return is the movie's biggest talking-point, so screening that to an audience of millions of people was a great way of magnifying that even further. I'm sure there were some X-Men fans unaware of his return, and to see him back in action was undoubtedly a major moment for them.
He appears just at the end of the teaser, showing his claws as Deadpool asks for a bit of help getting up. We only see his silhouette, which of course leaves us all wondering why he's been tasked with killing Deadpool and how the two will ultimately work together.
The role is, of course, played by Hugh Jackman once again, as the veteran actor makes his tenth appearance as the character, reprising his role from the X-Men films made by 20th Century Fox. He will team up with Deadpool in a movie that is expected to take its cues from buddy comedies.
We have no doubt that the banter and dysfunctional chemistry between Jackman's Wolverine and Reynolds' Deadpool will be one of the highlights of the movie, and it was great to get a tease of the former's return in the first trailer.
