The release of Avengers: Endgame five years ago brought the end to an unforgettable chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making the end of not just an era for the MCU but also for several of the stars who had been with the franchise from the beginning.

Among the many actors we’ve not seen in the MCU since Endgame’s release is Chris Evans, who played Steve Rogers aka Captain America for just under a decade. During that time, Evans appeared in three solo films, four Avengers movies, and made a handful of cameos including a few iconic post-credit scenes. After Endgame, Evans chose to step away from the MCU and brought an end to his time as Captain America, though fans have been holding out hope that he could eventually reprise the role.

Many have been speculating about a Disney+ series that sees Evans’ Captain America returning the Infinity Stones to their rightful timeline. While there is a chance that this could someday happen, it appears Evans might be about to make his first MCU appearance in over five years with a cameo on Deadpool & Wolverine… just don’t expect to see him playing the Marvel character you might be expecting!

Chris Evans rumored to be returning as Human Torch in Deadpool 3

According to a new rumor circulating across social media, Chris Evans is set to revisit a Marvel character he last played nearly 20 years ago: The Human Torch! As reported by comic book scooper My Time to Shine, Evans is expected to reprise his role as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine which would mark the first time Evans has suited up as the Fantastic Four fan-favorite since Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hit theaters back in 2007.

While the cameo is just a rumor at this time, Evans’ name has been attached to the upcoming third Deadpool movie for some time with many speculating he would make an appearance as Johnny Storm within the film as part of Marvel’s multiversal crossover film.

Evans was a highlight of the 20th Century Fox Fantastic Four films and it would definitely be fun to see him return to the MCU playing the Human Torch after all these years. He absolutely is still in peak superhero shape and a cameo, no matter how small in the grand scheme of the film’s storyline would be a standout moment for superhero fans.

Interestingly, it seems that Evans could be the sole member of the team who will pop up in Deadpool & Wolverine but he might not be the only former member of the films’ cast to return. Rejected Scooper has hinted that Jessica Alba could reprise her Sue Storm in Avengers: Secret Wars which would definitely be a fun follow-up cameo if Evans does indeed return in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Of course, we’ll take this rumor with a grain of salt as there have been so many rumored cameos floating around about who might be in Deadpool & Wolverine. Still, Evans has maintained a positive relationship with Marvel Studios and Disney, and he’s not been opposed to returning to the MCU so there’s a chance he could very well return as the Human Torch within the film.

We’ll have to wait until Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26 to know whether Evans is indeed part of the cast, but we’re going to be holding out hope that hit rumors proves to be true as there would be nothing more fun than getting to see Evans revisit his first Marvel role!
