Deadpool and Wolverine is the perfect send off for Fox's Marvel Universe
By Liam Clark
With the release of Deadpool and Wolverine, Fox's Marvel Universe has officially come to an end. Deadpool and a number of previously Fox-exclusive characters have made their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the movie as a nod to the classic films. It also features the long awaited team-up of Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
The film heavily sets up Deadpool to be a member of the MCU and his role in the future, even though the film works just as well as a standalone film. While the first R-Rated MCU film had the job of introducing Wade Wilson to the rest of the franchise, it also had the task of acting as a farewell to Fox's X-Men films.

Deadpool & Wolverine surprisingly does not have Deadpool permanently joining the MCU's Sacred Timeline in the movie, as the character opts to stay in his own world. However, the utilization of the TVA in the storyline and The Void being the film's main location allowed for it to create the perfect farewell for the Fox Marvel characters.
There were a number of key players in The Void, including a number of mutants from previous X-Men films and some of the actors who originally portrayed those characters returned. Those villains included Sabretooth (Tyler Mane), Toad (Ray Park), Juggernaut, Lady Deathstrike and Aaron Stanford as Pyro, who had the most substantial role of all of them.
Having all these actors return gave them a chance to play their iconic villains one more time and give the characters a place to all interact again. It also gave fans some cool scenes, such as Wolverine and Sabretooth facing off properly as well as X-23 going up against Juggernaut.
The villains were not the only characters given a chance to shine, as the film also gave some old Fox characters a second chance and some actors who were not given a real opportunity to shine before. These characters were not even X-Men related, with the perks of the Multiverse storyline, the TVA and The Void all being involved in the storyline giving Marvel the chance to bring all these different characters together to fulfil some fans dreams.
Fan favorites return such as Jennifer Garner as Elektra from Daredevil (2003) and Elektra (2005). Chris Evans makes a jaw-dropping return to the MCU but not as Captain America, as he reprises his other superhero role of Johnny Storm/Human Torch from the two Fantastic Four movies from the 2000s. Wesley Snipes also reprises his iconic role of Blade from the original trilogy of movies. This allowed for some epic, funny, and memorable moments that gave these characters a chance to shine again after so many years.
Dafne Keen's X-23 even made a return and the film gave Channing Tatum a chance to showcase what his portrayal of Gambit would have been like, and needless to say he was hilarious. All the cameos and surprise appearances flow well with the story and it ensures that Deadpool and Wolverine feels like one big early 2000s Marvel Universe crossover, giving not only the mutants a chance to shine but but the wider Fox Marvel Universe also.
Despite being a perfect tribute to the Fox Marvel Universe, the film also acts as a perfect conclusion for Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool films and Hugh Jackman's tenure as Wolverine. While it is almost certainly not going to be the end of Reynolds and Jackman's time as the characters, it's a perfect crossroads point, bidding farewell to the past while also welcoming them into a new chapter. It also just provides the perfect team-up filled with gore, violence and top notch bantering.
The film gives both Deadpool and Wolverine their moments to shine, with the pair saving the multiverse. Logan lives up to his variant's heroic sacrifice and redeems his past actions. Deadpool also lives up to his dreams of doing something that matters, with the pair getting their happy ending together as part of a bigger family.
The conclusion of the film wraps up the stories of both Deadpool and Wolverine perfectly, and it would be the perfect place to conclude them once and for all as it was for a number of Fox characters in the movie. While the opportunity is there for the pair to return, it would also not be disappointing if this was the end point as it perfectly closes the chapter of the Fox Marvel Universe. And we couldn't think of two better characters to lead the charge when doing so.
