Disney removes Marvel movie from its schedule (and no, it’s not Blade)

Disney has made some changes to its upcoming movie schedule which includes the removal of a Marvel movie from the calendar -- and surprisingly, it's not Blade that's being removed.

If there is one thing that we’ve learned in the last few years, it’s that change to the Marvel Studios movie slate is about as inevitable as Thanos himself.

There has been a lot of change to the Marvel Studios slate in recent years with movies and shows being shifted around, but the latest move from Disney has resulted in one Marvel film being removed entirely from the calendar. In an unexpected turn of events, Disney has removed a Marvel Studios movie slated to be released on July 24, 2026, from its studio calendar.

It’s unclear what project Marvel has decided to pull from the calendar as the spot was not previously confirmed for a specific movie but rather had been penciled in to save the date for an unannounced Marvel film. It seems Disney is sticking with its goal of scaling back on the MCU’s annual offerings by removing the unannounced film from the 2026 lineup which will see three Marvel Studios films hit theaters in Avengers: Doomsday and two untitled films slated for Feb. 13, 2026, and Nov. 6, 2026.

Blade remains set for a 2025 release date

What’s interesting is that while Disney has removed an untitled Marvel project from the movie calendar, it has not changed the release date currently in place for Blade.

The Mahershala Ali-led project remains on the calendar for November 7, 2025, despite the film having no director and having not yet begun filming. It’s possible that Disney simply didn’t want to move the project again until plans become more concrete, but we have to question whether there is really a chance Blade can make its November 2025 release date given filming has not yet begun and the movie is in need of a director.

Once a director is locked down and cameras begin rolling, it seems likely Marvel will have to move the movie back but only time will tell when exactly we might see Blade finally make his way to the big screen for his planned standalone film.

Avengers 5 is still set for 2026

While the fifth Avengers movie will no longer be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the next Avengers movie will still hit theaters in 2026. Following the announcements at SDCC that the fifth Avengers movie will now be titled Avengers: Doomsday and will star Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Marvel has confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on May 1, 2026.

The turnaround is a bit tighter than past Avengers movies as the film is expected to begin filming in early 2025, but we have no doubt the Russo Brothers will keep to a tight schedule in order to ensure the film makes its May 2026 release date. We also have no doubt that the film will be one of the most-talked-about and successful movies of 2026!
