DC Studios is currently setting the stage for its DC Universe (which will include the launches of upcoming animated series Creature Commandos and the live-action Superman and Supergirl movies), but it's also laying the groundwork for some other intriguing properties. That includes this new and exciting animated movie.

As revealed by Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and DC Studios has green-lit what the outlet rightly refers to as “a really cool project”: Dynamic Duo. But wait, this isn't a project centred on Batman and Robin; no, it's actually centered on two of DC’s most iconic crime fighters who share the “Robin” moniker: Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

Dynamic Duo takes place during the early days of the respective Robins' crime-fighting careers and, as Deadline points out, even though 6th and Idaho, which has been involved with all of Matt Reeves' titles in the The Batman universe (including the 2022 movie and the HBO/Max series The Penguin), are producing, the feature-length animated movie has no ties with those properties as part of The Batman Epic Crime Saga. So don't be expecting Robin to suddenly debut in The Batman - Part II as the properties aren't connected.

It's also worth noting that it likely won't be connected to Gunn and Safran's own DC Universe, as it is expected to introduce its own live-action Robin in Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

James Gunn made the announcement on his social media platforms, revealing that he was "over the moon excited" to share Dynamic Duo with fans. He also revealed that it is "the first feature film from visionary Swaybox" and that it will feature "a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI", and "a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich". Meanwhile, Swaybox's Arthur Mintz has been attached to direct.

Swaybox, co-founded and co-run by Mintz and his wife Theresa Andersson, integrates a relatively new animation technique called "Momo animation." This method combines CGI animation with practical elements of stop-motion and live-action real-time performance, resulting in an innovative form of puppetry.

James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios, Matt Reeves from 6th and Idaho, and Andersson of Swaybox are producing Dynamic Duo. Michael Uslan is credited as the executive producer.
