8. Adventures of Superman

The very first live-action TV series to ever star the Man of Steel, Adventures of Superman is probably the most revolutionary on this list. It brought the character off the comic book pages and out of the world of children's animation and broadcast him into people's homes on their TV screens. It was successful in doing so as the show ran for six seasons.

George Reeves led the series as the Man of Steel; he was only the second actor to play him, coming after Kirk Alyn in two 15-part movie serials. Its first season was rather intense for the time, with grittier storylines that involved violence and even death. However, when the show went color from season 3 onwards, it got more whimsical and silly, making the villains more larger-than-life, the storylines more out-there, and the tone more light-hearted. It certainly worked as this was a superhero series in the 1950s, but it did feel like a bit of a downgrade when compared to the some of the compelling drama in the first two seasons.

Adventures of Superman is a legendary chapter in TV history that introduced us to George Reeves' iconic hero. While much of the show hasn't aged well, it was a timeless portrayal of its equally timeless hero, and we're so thankful for how it changed the game.
