6. Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman had a tough task of being the first mainstream appearance of Superman on-screen since the Christopher Reeve movies. There was Superboy, but it wasn't in the public eye in the way that this show was about to be, and the irony is that it essentially took some of its cues from Superboy by adopting a different way of telling Superman's story.

'90s television was all about drama, romance, and relationships, and the ABC series proved that could all work with superheroes too. Lois and Clark prioritized the titular couple's relationship, showcasing their instant chemistry, playful workplace rivalry, and eventual romance. It also focused more on Kal-El's human struggles as Clark Kent instead of his heroics as Superman, but there was a solid balance of both throughout, making it a must-watch for fans of the character.

Certain elements of Lois and Clark have not aged well, especially the visual effects. But since we're talking about a TV series in the '90s here, the budget probably wasn't as high as it should have been, so we can overlook that. Nevertheless, it was an incredibly successful experiment that showed us how interesting Clark Kent and Lois Lane are as protagonists. We may have came for the heroics, but we stayed for the characters.
