4. Supergirl

Supergirl technically wasn't a Superman show, as it focused on the Man of Steel's cousin, but he was such a recurring presence in the series that it wouldn't feel right not to include him. From the shadowy figure that loomed (and messaged) in the first season to Tyler Hoechlin's cheery performance in the seasons after that, there was plenty of Superman to go around. But the real star of the show was undoubtedly Melissa Benoist's title heroine, for the Girl of Steel has never been better.

The show focused on Kara Zor-El's journey to becoming National City's hero, which soon resulted in her breaking out of the shadow of her more famous cousin. Like Superman, she inspired hope, compassion, heart, and love, constantly treating people with kindness and defeating powerful threats that wanted to do them harm.

While Supergirl had a bit of a rocky run, the compassion within its characters ensured that viewers were along with each of them for the ride. That first season (which aired on CBS) was the pinnacle of triumphant and heartwarming superhero adaptations, feeling much too larger-than-life for network television, and that made it one heck of an adventure.

Supergirl is one of the more underappreciated chapters of the Kryptonians' live-action story, but it is one of the best.
