1. Thor: Ragnarok

  • Release Date: Nov. 3, 2017
  • Director: Taika Waititi
  • Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Hopkins, and more

It's close, but Thor: Ragnarok is the funniest Marvel movie. Guardians of the Galaxy is really funny, too, and I have no qualms with those who pick Guardians of the Galaxy over Thor: Ragnarok. For me, Thor: Ragnarok just hits basically every beat in the funniest possible way. The chemistry, and lack thereof, between Thor, Valkyrie, Loki, and Hulk is so great, and these characters truly bring the best out of each other in the comedy department.

The film tells the story of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after they are banished from Asgard when their sister, Hela (Cate Blanchett), returns. They get trapped on Sakaar, where Thor is captured by Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and forced to fight in an arena against his old friend, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), also known as Hulk.

How many Marvel movies have Matt Damon cameos? Is there a funnier character in the MCU than the Grandmaster of Sakaar?

Exactly! Everything about Thor: Ragnarok just works. It's a testament to Taika Waititi and his team for crafting a great story, finding what works with these characters, and then playing up the drama and conflict. It makes for so many great moments.

We also get these moments of brilliance with some of the more minor characters, like Korg, who is just pure comic relief. If more of the MCU movies had the spirit and timing of Thor: Ragnarok, the MCU would be a better place.
