2. Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand

They might not have had as much screen time as the other couples on this list, but Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand were undeniably cute and undeniably in love.

We got to know the Red Viper of Dorne when he came to visit King's Landing in season 4, and he brought along his paramour, Ellaria. They weren't married but they might as well have been, as they were attached at the hip and had multiple children together.

Determined to avenge his sister Elia Martell, Oberyn agreed to fight Gregor Clegane (a.k.a. The Mountain) in Tyrion's trial by combat. Though he came close to winning, he got cocky and was taken out by The Mountain in a terribly violent death. I can still hear Ellaria's screams! I simply cannot imagine the pain Ellaria felt and still feel so sad about the way their relationship had to end.

1. Jon Snow and Ygritte

You knew these two would make the number one spot, right? Jon Snow and Ygritte were ill-fated, but that doesn't mean fans didn't root for them anyway.

Their first encounter took place beyond the Wall when Jon captured Ygritte, a Wildling. It didn't take long for a romance to form between the two against Jon's better judgment. But despite his true love for Ygritte, Jon was just too dutiful. He was a member of the Night's Watch and would never actually turn his back on them.

Their relationship had many ups and downs, with both of them knowing that it ultimately wouldn't work given their backgrounds and alliances. In the end, Ygritte died in Jon's arms in the fourth season after being shot by one of his own. This remains one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Game of Thrones history.
