Iconic Marvel hero will return to the MCU in Captain America 4
The Captain America film series is about to join the class of the rare few Marvel Cinematic Universe trilogies that add a fourth movie to their catalog. However, it's also in a pretty unique position, because as much as this is the fourth movie in the Star-Spangled Man's franchise, it's a new beginning of sorts; mainly because it will have a new Star-Spangled Man.
Carrying on from the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the film will see Anthony Mackie reprise his role as Sam Wilson, who has now left his days of being the Falcon behind and has taken over the mantle of Captain America. And with a new Cap comes some new (and seemingly old) threats, as Sam will have to stand up and take down some major foes in the movie, potentially even the Red Hulk.
There are a number of familiar faces in Captain America: Brave New World and now it seems that there will be yet another one.
Benedict Wong to return as Wong in Captain America: Brave New World
It looks like everyone's favorite Sorcerer Supreme will be back for yet another MCU installment as Benedict Wong will reportedly return as Wong in Captain America: Brave New World. The report comes from Atlanta Filming via a social media post, which instantly got the internet talking about what kind of role he could play in the film.
We might have answer for that already, as Marvel scooper AlexFromCC (who is also a writer for The Cosmic Circus) has confirmed that the character will be the one who begins the process of recruiting the new team of Avengers. If this is indeed the case, it confirms the months of speculation that Captain America 4 would be the film where the build towards an Avengers reunion would begin, and with Avengers 5 set to have what is quite possibly the biggest roster of heroes yet, that process would need to begin soon.
It's also not too surprising that Wong would show up in a Captain America movie, because you can't really have The Avengers without a Captain America. With that in mind, we should expect Sam Wilson to become one of the - if not the - first members of the new team.
The Wong Cinematic Universe
Another reason that it makes sense for Wong to be the person assembling the new roster of Avengers is the fact that he's been one of the most consistent aspects of Multiverse Saga since it began. Benedict Wong has played something of a recurring role throughout Phases Four and Five, ranging from cameo appearances to a main role in each of those respective projects.
He made his first post-Avengers: Endgame appearance in Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, which culminated in him recruiting Shang-Chi to discuss the origins of the Ten Rings with him and some of the veteran Avengers. He then played a minor role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and a major role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After that, he made recurring appearances in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, while Benedict Wong also voiced the character in What If...?.
All of these appearances have led to fans affectionately re-titling the MCU the "Wong Cinematic Universe" and it's easy to see why. He's had more involvement in the franchise since the Multiverse Saga began than any other character and that could have been to lay the breadcrumbs for this new team of Avengers that he's assembling. There have been rumors that Captain America, She-Hulk, and Spider-Man will be among its first members, so perhaps this is where that comes to fruition.
The positive response to Wong's apparent appearance in Captain America 4 simply highlights how popular the beloved character is. Nothing but the best for our Sorcerer Supreme!
