James Gunn unveils first official look at the Superman logo to kickoff filming

On Feb 29, Director and DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn took the internet by storm when he revealed the first official look at the new Superman suit while acknowledging that filming on the latest DC Comics reboot film is underway. In addition, Gunn also confirmed via social media that the tagline “Legacy has been dropped from the title.

On Feb 29, Director and DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn took the internet by storm when he revealed the first official look at the new Superman suit while acknowledging that filming on the latest DC Comics reboot film is underway. In addition, Gunn also confirmed via social media that the tagline “Legacy has been dropped from the title.  

As of this moment, Gunn and the rest of the cast are currently in Norway, with speculation mounting, but we still need to confirm that the icy landscape will be playing host to the iconic DC location, The Fortress of Solitude. 

Further confirming that the cameras were rolling on the latest DC comics film was that Actress Rachel Brosnahan, who has been tapped to play Lois Lane, released a viral TikTok clip of her hanging out with a newly bald Nicholas Hoult signifying that this variation of Lex Luthor will be comic accurate. In addition, David Corenswet has been tapped to be the Man of Steel, allowing this trio necessary prep to dedicate time to develop chemistry and enjoy themselves.

"Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be - coincidentally and unplanned - Superman's birthday," Gunn said on Instagram. "When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN," he confirmed. "Making our way to you July 2025."

Recently adding fuel to the latest DC studios project while igniting additional optimism,
Brosnahan touched upon her prep process and her brief excitement for the latest Superman suit as she spoke to Deadline during the SAG awards last month.

"“I’m talking to some journalists, I’m reading a lot of comics — so many I hadn’t read before,” the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star explained. “It’s been really fun to dig into this universe … I got to see the suit — and I was blown away!”

David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. Other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. 

Recent additions to the ever-growing cast are Terence Rosemore and Wendel Pierce, who have been confirmed to be Otis and Perry White, respectively.

As of now, plot details are still limited, but a brief synopsis for the film reads “Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman from the DC Studios is slated to fly to theaters on July 11, 2025.
